After you stroll along Bourbon Street and want a less noisy and more upscale area, head to nearby Royal Street ("less noisy" does NOT mean quiet). The street is easier to navigate, and there is a great variety stores/items. The restaurants are no more expensive than other areas, and they offer about everything you could want. Of course, you'll have a chance to see horse-carriages, street entertainers, history & haunted tour groups, and all sorts of people. We enjoyed it a whole lot!

The shops were very nice. Some of the prices were good and some were just outrageous. Entertainment along the street was nice!

Great area with lots of shops and cafes. Not quite as busy as Bourbon Street but still pretty hoppin'.

If you're looking for anything special, check out this street. There are many shops / stores that I'm sure you'll find something you want. Just wish some more stayed open later.

A block and a world away from Bourbon Street. Wonderful shops...great antiques. Definitely worth the time ( 15 min. to hours) to walk and look in windows.

Wander this street from end to end. Make sure you read the historical plaques attached to buildings. All the streets in the French Quarter warrant attention for their own unique contribution, but give Royal St a little extra time.

Royal street has it all. Good shopping, antiques, food, and historic buildings. You can find just about anything there. And it feels safe.

Lots of art stores along this street. Carousel bar at hotel Monte lone which is always packed but worth checking out. Some days, bands set up on the street and perform in the afternoon - all extremely good and fun to watch while walking around.

Cleaner, not stinky, with interesting things to see. As "The Originals" fan had to visit The Hotel Royal. It was super cool to be there.
