Owner description: The New Orleans Jazz Museum celebrates jazz in the city where it was born. Through dynamic interactive exhibits, multigenerational educational programming, reaserch facilities, and engaging musical performances, the music New Orleans made famous is explored in all its forms. Housed in the historic Old U.S. Mint, strategically located at the intersection of the French Quarter and the Frenchmen Street live music corridor, the New Orleans Jazz Museum is in the heart of the city’s music scene. Through partnerships with local, national, and international educational institutions, the New Orleans Jazz Museum promotes the global understanding of jazz as one of the most innovative, historically pivotal musical art forms in world history.

If you have any interest in Preservation Hall (and you should) or jazz history, please go see this exhibit. Wonderful photographs, amazing documents, excellent interviews.

We went down to the Satchmo Festival and had a great time. There were two tents of great live music going on, people dancing all around, costumed folk on stilts prowling about, guys in crazy feather costumes taking photos, and musicians of all ages everywhere.

There are some good exhibits here, the best of which is the jazz info upstairs. The mint is free, as is the concerts.

I went because I was told about the Jazz exhibition upstairs. Very interesting exhibition with Fats Domino's piano, a brief video, and lots of great photographs. I didn't spend much time in the Mint section downstairs, as I went purely to see the Jazz upstairs. A great free visit, just minutes from the French Market.

It was very small room in regards to the mint exhibit. I actually enjoyed a jazz exhibit they had upstairs more than the mint part itself. It was about preservation hall and the musicians that played there and how it came about. Not sure how long it will be there but it was really neat.
