Owner description: There's just enough voodoo lore here to introduce you to the history and culture of this spiritual practice and to tempt you to bring home a love potion or voodoo doll as a souvenir. Guided swamp, plantation and cemetery tours are available.

If you are interested in learning more about the history of Voodoo and what it is, I recommend you visiting this museum. The owner is very nice and will willingly answer all the questions you may have!

I have been to the Voodoo Museum multiple times. It is very educational to go through. Some visits here have been better than others. One time I got to sit in the chair as the Voodoo Queen because the priest was making some gris gris. That was pretty cool.

The museum itself is not that great, but the tour that takes you to the cemetery as well is the best one around. The owner himself leads the tour and he is an expert on voodoo in New Orleans. He takes on a walking tour, pointing out Marie Laveau's old house, different plots in the cemetery, and then stops by a voodoo temple to meet the priestess on the way back. It took a couple of hours and on a hot day I'd recommend a hat, sunglasses, and lots of water, but it was definitely worth it.

We loved that it was a history tour, not a sensationalized "ghost" tour. Our guide/owner Jerry is so knowledgeable - we looked him up later, and he is a reference for Wikipedia and Smithsonian Magazine. The info comes nonstop about New Orleans culture in general, specific New Orleans voodoo evolution, relationship with Catholic saints, on and on. (Speaking of "on and on" it did go long, and we had to leave before it was over so we could get to the next event we had planned.) You get to tour Cemetery #1 and there is no way you would find everything without a guide. Jerry's narrative in Louis Armstrong Park was great as well. This was a very good tour.

This is a small museum, but worth checking out if you want to learn about voodoo. The visit was short, but entertaining.
