“Historic and mediocre ”
Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

The location may be historic (2nd oldest continuously running bar in the US) but the bar itself is mediocre at best. Service is ok and the selection is reasonable but there are plenty of livelier places just a block away. Stop by for a drink and move on.

Thank Leon B

“history is better than reality”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

The history and pictures of this place are more interesting that actually going. It's more like a hold in the wall bar, just outside the French Quarter than it is a site you really need to see. If you're here though, might as well stop in for a pint or a mixed drink.

“One of the oldest bars in America”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

Well, that should be enough to get you there, its one of the oldest continuously operating bars in America. And, if that isn't enough, its named after a pirate. So, the bar itself is tiny, in a tiny little building. There is a great courtyard to the back and side of the building though, so if the weather is nice, grab a drink and head outside. At night, the bar is very dark, as it seems they have added very little lighting to the original structure, it does feel like it takes you back in time.

“Packed with "Frat-boy" types”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

This is a tourist trap type of place (obviously, it's on Bourbon Street!) I don't know if too many locals would be caught dead in here. You tend to get a lot of the tourists-gone-wild times on Bourbon, and there's nothing all that special about this place, other than the pretty statue in the courtyard.

“Our favorite NOLA bar”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

Dark. Unassuming. Atmospheric. Everything a good bar should be. Their Voodoo Juice is a fantastic drink when the weather is warm but look out! They aren't for wimpy drinkers. Prefer the jukebox to the piano player and some of the haunted tours wrap up here so it can get busy in the evenings.
