The tomb that inspired it all, right here... Interesting, historical relevance and references to movie magic....

“Lots of NOLA history!”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

Took the walking tour with Save our Cemeteries. Their guides are volunteers so the money goes to the restoration projects. It's a shame to see so much in ruins and damaged. Glad to see they are working on restoring some of the damage. If you're staying in the French Quarter, take the St. Charles trolley to the Washington Street stop, only a couple of blocks walk. Well worth the effort.

“Take one of the free walking tours for the cemetery”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

many of the tours are combined with a walk & talk through the garden district as well. Don't miss out on Still Perkin coffee and tea shop at the corner of Prytania and Washington on the corner of the cemetery.

“Nearly Halloween!”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

All the houses in the Garden District have skulls and skeletons and cobwebs as it's nearly Halloween, so the cemetery was even more spooky. Wander round and look at the dates on these enormous vaults and the number of corpses interred over the years, some contain 10 to 15 bodies. Well worth a visit.

“perfectly safe to walk around yourself”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

Walk around yourself, or get a "free tours" tour. Interesting stuff. Avoid the sameourcemeteries tours...at least based on our experience with them at St. Louis #1 cemetery.
