Neat site to see if your into that kind of thing, I loved it, very historic if not creepy...restoration is very much needed on all the cemeteries in New Orleans.

None of the cemetaries in NOLA are maked well with who is buired there and the hisotry of the places are worth knowing. Get a tour guide and visit this place, matter of fact, find one that will take you here and around the garden district.

This is an active cemetary found in the Garden District of New Orleans. You can get there by taking the St. Charles Streetcar to Washington St. stop and walking about 1-2 blocks down Washington. All of the graves are above ground and if you can snag a tour guide, the explanation as to why this is done is quite interesting. We found someone waiting at the front of the cemetary who gave us a quick 30 min tour with some interesting facts and stories for $5/person. Not sure if she is there all the time. The cemetary doesn't require a ton of time but I would recommend getting some form of information on what you are seeing to truly appreciate it. Not necessarily a must-see in NOLA but very unique and one of the only real "sights" in the Garden District area.

We saw this cemetery on a tour, and we wouldn't have understood how they bury if we hadn't had a guide to explain it. Just going to look probably isn't worth it.

My friend and I knew we had to visit a cemetery when we were in New Orleans. We chose this one because of the tour we found with Free Tours by Foot. Sarah was our tourguide and she was amazing. We both learned a lot about the history of Lafayette Cemetery and some of the people buried there. I'm not sure someone who just went to Lafayette Cemetery would get as much out of it if they did not have a knowledgeable tour guide. Without a tour I thinkit would just be another cemetery in New Orleans.
