Owner description: The National WWII Museum is the top-rated tourist destination in New Orleans, TripAdvisor's #2 museum in the world and #2 in the U.S., and an unforgettable way to experience World War II—from industrial efforts on the home front to the combat experience of the American servicemember abroad. Offering a compelling blend of sweeping narrative and poignant personal detail, the Museum features immersive exhibits, multimedia experiences, and an expansive collection of artifacts and first-person oral histories to take visitors inside the story of the war: why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today. Beyond the galleries, the Museum offers unique access to experiential history, including an opportunity to tour and even ride on an authentically restored PT-boat, tours behind the scenes to handle artifacts alongside Museum curators, and an impressive collection of restored and working macro-artifacts to discover. The Museum is open daily, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. nationalww2museum.org

It was a good museum. Liked all the pictures and information they had to show. Only thing I have to warn you about is that if you go on a Saturday make sure you get there early because it does get crowded.

This museum far exceeded my expectations. It was myself and my 10-year-old son and we had an afternoon we will never forget. You MUST see the 4-D movie directed by Spielberg featuring Tom Hanks... not going into detail for fear of spoiling it, but it's well worth every penny you pay for it, and then some. The museum itself was easy to follow - not like most museums where you end up all over the place and see the same exhibits twice. Lunch was even terrific with hostesses that dressed the part in their polka dot dresses, bright red lipstick and pulled up and appropriately pinned hair! Loved it! During lunch, they play old USO footage and young Bob Hope. WW2 Museum does a great job with the time line of the events and does a nice job walking you through the history. As an Oak Ridger, it was very poignant to observe the atomic bomb footage. To end the day, we saw replicated planes in the open 4-story gallery and had custom dog tags made in honor of my husband and father, both navy vets. I highly recommend this museum, if you have kids.

The only thing we didn't like about the museum was that it was spread out over (I think) three buildings which was inconvenient especially as it poured rain while we were there. They are doing renovations at the moment but this doesn't detract from the exhibitions. You also have to cross the street to get from one building to another. It was a little confusing at first.

Anyway, I can pretty much sum this up by saying that we learned more about World War II from this museum than from either school or anywhere else. There were small booths scattered throughout the exhibitions where you could watch or listen to people's recordings of their first-hand war experiences from various perspectives. The exhibitions are extremely informative.

Across the street, there is a large building with various WWII-era vehicles including aircraft. You can view the aircraft from catwalks on different levels as they are hanging from the ceiling. You may not want to do this if you are afraid of heights.
We didn't find this particular display that impressive, but we have previously been to the National Air and Space Museum and the Intrepid so we have seen stuff like this before. This part would be more interesting for first-timers or those who have a particular interest in aircraft/wartime vehicles.
The 4D film was fantastic. Definitely worth paying extra for.
We got lunch from the Soda Shop. The food was pretty good - still not terribly healthy, but much better quality than the boring/disgusting hotdog/burger/chips clone menus that usually plague these types of attractions.

Decent for now, I'm sure it will be much better when complete. Don't waste your money on the Tang experience, its not worth it and kinda morbid. However, the Tom Hanks movie was well done.

Visited recently although I had been a few years back. More of it is now finished, but there is still more building going on. Was able to park right next door, very convenient. Great exhibits and videos. It takes a good day to see everything so plan on spending quite a while here.

Highly recommend to history buffs or fans of Band of Brothers. Quite moving to think about how many gave so much for our country, Would not recommend taking children to the museum as there are photos of dead bodies and violence related to war.
