Owner description: The National WWII Museum is the top-rated tourist destination in New Orleans, TripAdvisor's #2 museum in the world and #2 in the U.S., and an unforgettable way to experience World War II—from industrial efforts on the home front to the combat experience of the American servicemember abroad. Offering a compelling blend of sweeping narrative and poignant personal detail, the Museum features immersive exhibits, multimedia experiences, and an expansive collection of artifacts and first-person oral histories to take visitors inside the story of the war: why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today. Beyond the galleries, the Museum offers unique access to experiential history, including an opportunity to tour and even ride on an authentically restored PT-boat, tours behind the scenes to handle artifacts alongside Museum curators, and an impressive collection of restored and working macro-artifacts to discover. The Museum is open daily, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. nationalww2museum.org

It is not a great museum, but it should be a stop if you are in New Orleans. The movie is worth watching, even though it seems somewhat disjointed.

Plan to spend most of the day at the museum and definitely spring the extra money for the film. We only had a little over 2.5 hours, and were only able to see the film and get through the European theater exhibits. We needed another couple hours to see the Pacific theater exhibits, but alas had to get back to our conference. I learned that my high school WWII education was woefully inadequate. I like the perspective the museum has taken with their exhibits. They put a very human face on the war. Those were extremely challengiing times and required great sacrafice by many. My father was in the Pacific theater and I now understand at the gut level why he never talked about it. With the freedoms I now enjoy, all I can say to all those men and their families is "Thank you." Somehow, it does not seem like enough.

My expectations were too high, I enjoyed the static displays of equipment and Higgens Boats. I think that I may have watched and read too much Military History and visited many other military museums to really make the price of admiission worth while. The static displays that I mentioned before are free to view in the lobby of the museum. The movie was interesting, used some interesting techniques, but again not overly impressed.

The exhibits here are top-notch. If you go during the day, many times there are WWII veterans who work or volunteer there. Ask to hear their stories. The cafe is very nice, but a bit pricey. Dinner and shows are excellent values and great fun. We've been multiple times to the shows and dances at the Cantine and have enjoyed each one. Addidtionally, this is a great venue for receptions and other events- been to a bunch and they were all superb.
