Owner description: New Orleans' Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to honor one of America's truest art forms - Traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues its mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture. Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts over 350 nights a year featuring ensembles from a current collective of 100+ local master practitioners. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition.

You can't visit New Orleans without experiencing it's music and this is the place to be. It is small, crowded and with limited seating (most have to stand, not only inside but also on line outside to see/hear a show) but it is worth the trouble. I'm not a big jazz fan but I loved this show.

If you are any sort of American music fan then Preservation Hall must visit. A charming little room oozing music history.

I went to Preservation Hall with my mom for her birthday. We attended the 9 pm show. There was a long line, but it was well worth the wait. Make sure you have cash and a cool drink to take with you. Credit cards aren't accepted. No drinks are sold inside nor are there restrooms or a/c. With that said, musically, it was an amazing experience. The musicians were fabulous and did a great job interacting with the crowd. For only $10 you get to experience jazz in a unique setting that transports you back to another era. You can buy cds after the show, and credit cards are accepted for purchasing cds. Don't film/take photos during the show. You will be called out for doing so.

We saw the brass band, and were transformed by the experience. Absolutely amazing! The reserved tickets are worth purchasing in advance, esp if you have children, because they may not be able to see well in the standing room only.

We knew that you had to wait in line, but we did not know that after waiting 35 minutes in line that we would have to stand in the back of a small stuffy room to watch a performance. The performers were good (what you could see of them from behind all the people) but to be quite honest we enjoyed some of the bands we saw on the streets more and it cost us a tip not the huge price for the hall.
