Owner description: New Orleans' Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to honor one of America's truest art forms - Traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues its mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture. Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts over 350 nights a year featuring ensembles from a current collective of 100+ local master practitioners. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition.

this was my 2nd trip to Nola but my husbands first,we are jazz and blues fans so this was a must. You will walk right by the building,it is small but mighty! We got in line 55 min before the performance on a Jan night and it was so worth the wait to hear the great music, and to be at this hallowed venue. We got bench seating, very limited, but while in line we took turns getting a hurricane and sharing it so the wait was so with it

Wow! We were blown away by this experience! We reserved online two of the eight seats reserved each night and were thrilled to be sitting, literally, with the band. (After walking all day, it was nice to know we had a seat. The lines outside were long!) Shannon Miler and the Preservation Hallstars were there our night, and their set was fantastic! There are no bathrooms, no beverages, nothing but great music! This is our best memory of New Orleans!

Not only did we get to visit this famous place, we heard the namesake jazz band! Check it out if you are ever in New Orleans!

Be prepared to wait in line, but this is worth it. Grab a hurricane to go from Pat O'Brien's to drink while you wait. Preservation Hall has no bar and no bathrooms, so be sure you take care of business before you go in. The show is about 45 minutes, and there are three shows a night. Get there early to get in line. We missed getting into the first show, but were close to the front of the line for the second show, so we were fortunate to get seats. Seating is limited, so you might have to stand in the back. The band is a bunch of guys (some old, some not so old) who clearly play for the joy of it. Our teenagers loved it also. Highly recommend!

We must have walked by this place half a dozen times before realizing it was PH--such a no-frills facade with just a small sign hanging above. A woman on a walking tour recommended we get there early to stand in line, bring something for dinner or eat beforehand.. gave us all the tips which right were on the mark. We were about 2nd in line behind a small group (and a huge group of students behind us). My son who said he didn't really know anything about this sort of music and wasn't necessarily keen to go--well, he was clapping and singing along with the best of us and loved it. Will Smith and a great sax player, trombone player and two guys on drums (so sorry I don't remember their names) were fabulous. You'd have to be dead not to like the music. We were so close to them and it was a packed room with nice energy. Every one knows it is a quick gig--sitting is nice which is why you want to be first in line--there aren't many seats to be had.
They get you in for the show and then out you go so the next group can come in---don't think you can settle in for an evening of music but it is worth doing at least once. Glad we had the opportunity.
