We woke up early and took the St. Charles Line to the Garden District. After walking around for hours we still wanted more. Beautiful, homes, gardens and cemetaries. Everyone was so friendly and said hello as we walked around taking pictures. A must see in New Orleans.

We took the walking tour version to visit the Garden District. The tour starts at Lafayette Cemetery and continues with a walk by many of the outstanding homes in the area. To truly understand New Orleans beginnings, the cemetery was really the key part of the tour. The high death rate experienced by the early settlers and how they dealt with it (learning how to survive in a swamp) translated into many of the unique aspects of New Orleans culture and music. By having a tour guide, you obtain these important insights to the very early New Orleans history. The tour was free with a donation opportunity at the end. A tip for everyone is to carry a water bottle with you during the tour.

We enjoyed walking around the garden district after taking the trolley to the area. These homes were spared devastation from the hurricane and are grand, beautiful southern plantation homes. We were able to stroll at our own pace, not on a formal tour. Worth seeing if you appreciate architecture at all.

This is the most renovated part of the city. St. Charles trolley is back. Homes looking great. Nice shops. Worth the visit.
