“historic, dingy and friendly”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

We went there for the history, the absinthe and the bloody marys, which I had read were quite good. It is true that the absinthe is expensive, $12 - $20 a glass. We had budgeted for it and only had one each. I think mine was 130 proof. The bloody marys are pretty good, with Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, lime and pickled okra. When you walk into the bar it is a bit surprising how dumpy it looks. If you look through the mess you'll start to see bits of history everywhere. Ask about the really old absinthe drippers. I went looking for them and found myself in a back hall. A guy showed up and gave us a tour of the entire historic building. It is much nicer than the bar and contains a lot of history. Your experience will depend a lot on your expectation.

“Old absinthe disappointment”
Reviewed April 26, 2013 via mobile

Heard reviews that this place was historic...,ended up being historically horrendous! Atmosphere was delapidated, dirty and service was just average.

“Don't bother.”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

This place is a big disappointment. The atmosphere is that of a sports bar and stale beer, they basically sell beer and shooters, and it is pretty much indistinguishable from any other bar on Bourbon Street. They do sell absinthe, but at exorbitant prices. Other than that, they do very little in the way of cocktails -- my wife got what she described as the worst martini she had ever had, and the head bartender had neve even heard of a ViVirus Cards.

“Could be the best bloody Mary I have ever had!”

Bartenders were awesome, drinks were great and reasonably priced. We made this a frequent stop in the mornings after our breakfast in the French Quarter

“Worth a Visit”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Our first day in New Orleans was a rainy one so we ducked into the Old Absinthe House for a bit. We liked it because it was a little older crowd even though it was on Bourbon St. Good music playing on the juke box, warm fire in the fireplace. Beware of the Planters Punch! It will punch you right in the head and knock you out! haha!
