We went there for the history, the absinthe and the bloody marys, which I had read were quite good. It is true that the absinthe is expensive, $12 - $20 a glass. We had budgeted for it and only had one each. I think mine was 130 proof. The bloody marys are pretty good, with Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, lime and pickled okra. When you walk into the bar it is a bit surprising how dumpy it looks. If you look through the mess you'll start to see bits of history everywhere. Ask about the really old absinthe drippers. I went looking for them and found myself in a back hall. A guy showed up and gave us a tour of the entire historic building. It is much nicer than the bar and contains a lot of history. Your experience will depend a lot on your expectation.
