It's a beautiful site to explore. Make sure to find out the meaning of Jackson's horse having two feet in the air (I won't spoil it).
Also go down the west side of the cathedral to Pirates Ally and visit Faulkner Bookstore. William Faulkner wrote his first novel here.

The Jackson Square is the heart of the French Quarter. The Sqaure itself is a lovely park which is surrounded by great architecture, food, shopping, art, entertainment and wonderful people watching. Definately a place to see and is the perfect launching point to see the French Quarter.

I arrived at Jackson Square very early in the morning. Enjoyed how peaceful it was. Few people around so able to enjoy. Watching the shops and vendors prepare for the day and their greetings was fun.
Later in the day it was packed. While still fun, it loss a little charm.
The visitor center staff very helpful. I asked about the best place walking distance to enjoy a snowball, I was shown on a map of the best one nearby.
If you want to dine, shop or people watch, this is a great place to do so. To enjoy the true beauty of the area, arrive before 8:30 a.m.

with the church on one side ( please go in) and the french market on the other you get so much to see in one area. It is great to plan walking trips or meeting others based upon jackson square!
