It is good to see what goes on behind the scenes of the Mardi Gras float. Most people are new to the concept. The fee is a little bit for the value but since many out-of-sate folks don't have much idea about the Mardi Gras, its history and the floats, etc, it is probably worthwhile.

“Lots of fun”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

For some reason I was reluctant to visit Mardi Gras World. I thought it would be boring and tacky, but my teenagers were looking for something to do, so we decided to go. I lived near New Orleans as a child, and went to Mardi Gras several times, and it was interesting to revisit it at Mardi Grad world. We took the guided tour, which was well worth the money. There was a short informative video that gave my kids (and others who don't know anything about Mardi Gras) a great introduction. It also spoke of how it has changed since the 70s when i was here. The tour provided guest with a chance to try on Mardi Gras costumes. We didn't, but had fun watching others. The best part was the tour of the huge warehouse itself. The guide narrated as we walked, but what i enjoyed the most was learning how the floats are made and getting to watch people at work for this year's Mardi Gras parade. Watching artists make the flowers out of poster board or sculpt out of Styrofoam was fun to see.

“Worth it!”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

We debated whether it was worth the money--and it was! Fantastic, fascinating, and fun. We learned a lot. 9 YO boy in tow who also loved it. We were there on a Sunday and it was full of people making the floats, painting, prepping for Mardi Gras. Trying on costumes was a blast. Don't miss it! Especially if you want to know anything about this fascinating tradition.

“history lesson plus freedom to wander”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

The tour started off with a short video about Mardi Gras and the krews that sponsor the parades. That was followed by a sample of king cake before heading into the warehouse. We were given a tour of the warehouse and then allowed to wander around at our leisure to look at the different floats and props used to decorate them. Who knew that there were port-a-pottis on the floats. It was a good way to get an up close look at what is involved with the 50 plus parades that occur during Mardi Gras even though we went in December.

“If you can't go to Mardi Gras...”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

This is a good second choice if you can't see the floats in action. Very impressive organized display and guided tour of the famous Mardi Gras floats. You can see the up close and personal and even touch them if you wish. You're welcome to take pictures to your heart's desire. Convenient busses take you to and from the Museum. It's a must see if you can go to Mardi Gras!
