“Excellent art-filled home in historic neighborhood”
Reviewed November 4, 2018 for a stay in October 2018

We loved staying in Matilde's Art Gem in Bywater. Clean, comfortable, and within walking distance of Marigny and the French Quarter. Even before we arrived, Matilde had set us up for success with recommendations on where to eat in the neighborhood, what to see, and how to get around.
Upon arrival, we found a beautifully appointed, clean, art-filled home with everything we needed. The place was spacious, kitchen well-equipped, and the bed was very comfortable. What amazed us the most was all the wonderful artwork that adorned the walls and pedestals in the home, most of which is the owners' work.
We are walkers and did most of our adventuring on foot, walking about 10 miles each day. Other modes of local transportation are available from the buses and trolleys, uber/lyft, taxis, and bicycle rentals. Be prepared for chaos and delays if you use the rapid transit. In hind-sight, I think bicycle renting is your best bet and we plan to do just that on our next visit. There are 2 bike shops within a mile or so that do daily or multi-day rentals for around $20/day. Blue Bike ride-share is also available at 10 cents/minute.
Within 2 or 3 blocks of the home are excellent places to eat, a great neighborhood bar, coffee house down on the corner, bakery, and a great NY-style pizza joint. You can tell that most of the patrons of these establishments are locals and you're spared the tourist-oriented decor and menu items. You can't go wrong; all of the meals we had in the neighborhood were delicious.
I recommend Matilde's Art Gem without hesitation and we definitely plan to return here on our next visit to The Big Easy.

“Bywater Art Gem”
Reviewed May 9, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

All that we needed during our visit could be found in this eclectic neighborhood. Even though we were there for a short time we felt as if we were a part of the community. Authentic regional food could be found at restaurants (Oxalis, Elizabeth's, Marigny Brasserie) within walking distance from the property. We spent a lot of time on Frenchmen Street. Very much an artist community. Maltilde and Gustavo were very accommodating with recommendations. The rental property met all of our needs. It was like living in an art museum. We loved it.
