Be sure to wander up-and-down all of the streets. Very unique shops, architecture and people. Go past Cafe du Monde to the French Market its like a flea market but also has some artists. Fun and good food too

You can spend the day strolling the streets and enjoying the many free outdoor music performances that occur every day. There are a lot of shops and stroll the river front and stop at cafe dumonde

A New Orleans experience can vary widely depending on what you do. Bourbon street is worth walking down once, but I don't know why anyone would see it twice. After all if all you want to do is get drunk, you can do it so much cheaper at home.
However if you spend time wandering around the rest of the French Quarter, you can't help but come upon something really worth while. Royal street and Jackson Square are great for street performers. Great restaurants are everywhere. The streets between Royal st. and the river are the best shopping. After it gets dark, all of the less crowded streets become really romantic for a stroll. For something different, the old cemetery is just at the edge of the French Quarter on Basin st. We like to stay at the Olivier House hotel because in is right in the middle and makes everything close to walk to, but there are other good hotels in the French Quarter as well.

Strolling the streets of New Orleans Vieux Carre (French Quarter) is more akin to touring old Europe than other North American city with the possible exception of Quebec City. What an eclectic experience, definitely a bucket list item.

Take 1-2 days to walk around the French Quarter. So many shops, restaurants, bars, and galleries to see! Don't make plans, just enjoy your surroundings!
