I wish this place did not draw thugs, etc. Lots of wonderful places to eat. Avoid Bourban street, unless you enjoy vomit on the streets. Take a carriage ride for the history lesson the drivers give. Also enjoyed the cemetary and voodoo tours. Aunt Sallys pralines must not be missed. Also the beignets are great.

Loved walking the whole area from our Landmark French Quarter Hotel on Rampart Street. Walking down to the river on various streets and across to either border was great. Bourbon Street is a bit too touristy and the jazz was sometimes hard to find. Discovered Frenchman Street from the locals. It is just east of Esplanade (tehnically outside the quarter and not mentioned in publicity) but it has the best jazz and pubs and food in our opinion. Saturday night you could get shows every 2 hours in numerous venues with food - whole spectrum of jazz styles. Wish we had found it at beginning rather than end of our short trip.

The atmosphere is really amazing. The shops, the delicious food, the friendly people, everything is fabulous. Be sure an listen to the Creole/Zydeco music for a treat...and dance!
