Mixed means...when the "right" food arrived it was very good. Service was a bit spotty. So basically we enjoyed the food not the service, i.e. salad arrived about 30 seconds before the entree, refills were a little slow and when one entree arrived it was the wrong thing. We will go back for the food and hope for a better service experience.

Regarding Porter, IN (Population 4,858)
About 1-1/2 hours south/south-east of Chicago, about 10 minutes from I-94 & US-20 exit.

1) Must visit restaurant in this area is Wagners, which is locally famous for beef ribs. Located in the town of Porter, Wagners ribs is a must! Just 1 mile south of US 20. They have a large selection of regional beers & a full bar. There is outside seating as well.

For a treat, they have some very affordable combo meals. I tried the 1/2 rack of ribs with two crab cakes. Just as good as Baltimore, maybe better! Very friendly service. I would highly recommend Wagners to anyone visiting the "Region", it's tops on my list.

Please remember: Adults Only, nobody under 21 years of age is permitted at this location.

The entrance to the establishment is through the bar, thus no children are allowed. It would have been nice if the woman who answered the phone told us about that prior to driving from Valparasio all the way to Laporte.

We won't return without our children, that is just ridiculous.

The ribs are worth the money and drive. The place isn't the nicest but once you've eaten there, the atmosphere is the charm. Try the other location, Wagner's Too in Valparaiso for a step up. The food is fantastic at both locations!

In my town we have a pretty amazing rib place with absolutely wonderful haystack onion rings, so to say they have been beat is very hard to do, sorry Rib Shack, but Wagner's has done it!

The ribs were the most tender, and just perfectly seasoned. The right amount of sauce and no mess as most ribs places entail. They also have many other items on the menu, if ribs aren't your thing,,and all the dishes coming out looked amazing, even the salad. The staff was attentive yet not buggy. There is a full service bar and al fresco seating, if weather permits. They also have sauces for sale and carry out, heat and eat ribs. Absolutely wonderful
