Well, I finally convinced my husband to have his birthday dinner, just the two of us for a grand prix meal. This has been one of the restaurants I want to check out after a good review from Zagat. Located in a Lockport, just north of Joliet, it has a mall town feel to it. As we head downstairs to the restaurant, you can really sense the history of the building. I already had an idea what to order, the question was how many courses? Usually portions are small (taste portions) but not this! So prepare and be sure you are really hungry! From beginning to end, it was a feast to the eyes and palate! And the price is way affordable than the ones in the city! Definitely worth the drive!

We went to Tallgrass for our anniversary, and we were glad we did. The food was very good, but the atmosphere was a bit creepy (it actually made the experience a little better - we found the humor in it!). It was VERY quiet in the restaurant, and we felt weird talking in anything louder than a whisper. Our waiter was a bit sweaty, but very nice. You may be thinking to yourself "this doesn't sound very good", but we REALLY enjoyed the food. The desserts alone are worth the trip! We would go back.

Our dinner last evening was top notch as always. The trio of wild seafood was delightful as was the seafood assortment sampler as starters. The service was professional and friendly. The wine list provides several reasonable selections to compliment your dining experience. Do not miss the assortment of interesting cheeses for dessert!

The restaurant is above average. the decor is subdued and does not distract from the food, which is good, though not great by international (eg, Swiss or French) standards. The staff is attentive, although the service is a bit pretentious. Three of our four companions thought that the main courses, though tastey, were a trifle heavy and missing a few vegetables. The soups and desserts were excellent.
After reading the web page and seeing that a three course "Special Menu" was offered on Wednesday evening for 30$, we assumed---since there was no indication to the contrary---that this included all of the items on the main menu. The server who seated us and gave us the menus did not mention this "special" and not until we expressed surprise upon receiving the bill were we told the the "Special Menu" is listed separately and that its offerings are limited---though completely adequate. The responsibilty for explaining the offerings certainly belongs to the staff and not to the customer.
This experience is reflected in my rating.
