Everything was perfect! The hosts, the breakfasts, the bed, the ambiance... we wanted for nothing the entire weekend. I really enjoyed playing piano in the guest gathering room, being able to grab games and cards for a night in, and the handiness of the refrigerator/kitchenette available to use at all times. I wish we could have stayed an entire week.

We stayed in the Hedy suite, the room is spacious, clean and the bed comfortable. The tub was delightful but the room needed more ventilation for the humidity from the tub and the bathroom. The well pump and furnace room were located below the room. Every time the well pump went off it shook the floor and the airconditioning woke us up in the middle of the night with a piercing high pitch squeal. You could also hear the traffic sounds from the freeway. If you are a light sleeper this may not be the place for you. The breakfast was excellent.

MadisonInnkeeper, Owner at The Speckled Hen Inn Bed & Breakfast, responded to this reviewResponded November 11, 2010

We are very sorry that our guest experienced a problem during his stay. It was a humid fall day with daytime temperatures near 80. At night the temperature fell to around 45 degrees. We turned on the air conditioner in the afternoon to make the Inn more comfortable and when the temperature dropped at night, the coil in the furnace iced up and caused the high pitched squeal.
The next morning the guest told us that he had entered the furnace room and turned off the furnace. While that solved the coil issue, it stopped all air circulation throughout the Inn since the fan is designed to run 27/7 to change the air in the rooms and keep temperature and humidity levels constant.
We did consult with our furnace service company and they confirmed that the unit will not operate properly with wide temperature swings accompanied by high humidity. Although this has never happened before and may never happen again, we will make sure that we switch off the air conditioner at sunset to prevent freeze up, but will leave the fan running as is normally the case. This should assure a quieter night for our guests should we ever again experience such peculiar weather.

We spent 2 nights in 2 different room due to them being busy and had a wonderful time. The bathrooms were really nice and the rooms were pretty big unlike other b&b's. The sheep and llamas were cool and Happy the dog is everyone's friend. Bob and Pat made the weekend.

My bother and I took a road trip to Minnesota and of course the Speckled Hen Inn B&B is along our path (as it has been several times before) so I was looking forward to a repeat stay (first time for him). As usual Bob and Pat were wonderful hosts. They make you feel comfortable and welcome. The rooms and the entire place is elegant and posh. Remote fireplace, TV, lighting. Spa tubs. The works. And Llamas too. It was fun watching them out in the huge pasture minding the sheep. Breakfast was served at several seating times so you don't feel rushed. And Chef Bob has a wonderful way with eggs. If you come to Madison, or if you're just passing through, this is the place to stay!

This was one of our best stays at a Bed & Breakfast! We spent 2 nights here and hated to leave we had such a great time. Our room was so beautiful; comfy bed, window seat to look out at the sheep & llamas, nice gas fireplace, huge bathroom with a soaking whirlpool tub and separate shower with 2 heads. Plush robes, thick bath towels, scented bath gels for the tub. The breakfasts were to die for...so delicious! Happy the Goldendoodle stole our hearts and made our stay feel like we were right at home (we too have a Goldendoodle).

Some of the best food; yummy pumpkin muffins, cranberry scones, fresh fruit, an egg dish that was so good, pancakes with a unique orange syrup and more! We loved how they used local produce that was grown on their farm!

The InnKeepers are so charming and have a way of making you feel like you've known them forever! We bought the Wisconsin Bed & Breakfast cookbook - this Inn is on the cover!!!
