“Very good, but not a 5 star place, especially for the price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

This is a very good restaurant and my steak (and my spouse's) were excellent, as were the sides and my shrimp. I am glad we had the 20% off Costco gift cards (highly recommended, $80 for $100 of food) as the full price isn't worth it. We don't drink wine, didn't have a dessert and it still was over $100 for both of us (had appetizers and one side, though, Yes, sides like mashed potatoes and such are extra). The steaks were excellent, but only worth about $25-35, not $40-50 or so. Also amazes me how different medium rare steaks are at different places. Too bad this isn't standardized (some places, medium rare steaks means you can stab it and it moves, others it is almost brown through) but such is life.

They have good prices earlier in the day, and there are deals to be had, but they didn't give my wife anything special even though it was her birthday. This place is great, just not the 1st rate level I have seen at other high end chains like Oceanaire, Capitol Grille, etc even though they do have crumb scrapers, open the door for you and all that. Somehow, the atmosphere just isn't quite 1st rate, but is close. With a few changes, they could be so outstanding, but I can only given them a very good. Step it up, Flemings, live up to the potential. You are so close.

“Wonderful food and atomosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

Went for 4-course meal with different kinds of spirits in between, wonderful dining experience, good food. I travel quite a bit for my work and eat at high-end restaurants and felt this was very comparable to others.

“Expense not merited”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

While the food was good, even very good. It was not worth the expense. The service was average and very rehearsed as opposed to being genuine and fun. The prices here and the portion sizes are very small compared to other classic steak houses - especially the sides.

“Good for a chain”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2012

Madison, WI is blessed with many amazing, locally owed restaurants that serve locally sourced food, restaurants I'd recommend over Flemings, but for a chain Flemings isn't bad. Nice atmosphere, excellent service. The food is good, but not amazing. The highlights were probably the crab cakes, wedge salad and carrot cake. Everything else was average, but prepared well. Very nice wine list. For the price you can get a much more unique experience in Madison (i.e. Tornado, Tempest, Nostrano, L'Etoile, Wonder Bar), but Flemings is a decent restaurant with excellent service so it deserves its place in Madison.

“Wow!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2012

I am usually not a "ala carte pricing" kind of girl. I'd rather see a charge for $75 for the whole meal than for anyone to try to tell me that the baked potato was worth $8...HOWEVER, we got a $50 coupon in the mail from American Express so we figured we'd give it a try.

WOW, WOW, WOW -- from the gentleman opening the door, to our server, to the food, everything was completely excellent. Amazing steaks, salad, soup, bread on the table -- really top notch!

It was our anniversary and my husband had told them when he made the reservation. There was an anniversary card on the table when we got there and the server gave us a box of truffles and a $25 coupon card for a future visit.

When you're looking for a dress-up, special occasion place, this is it -- but expect pricy!!
