“Very pleased”
Reviewed September 23, 2008

Because of a death in the family we had to make arrangements to travel to Madison very quickly. I wanted to find lodging at a reasonable price but didn't want to stay in a sub-par hotel. We booked at the Best Western West Towne suites and hoped for the best. We were pleased with every aspect of our stay. Check-in and check-out was quick and efficient. The hotel was clean, well maintained, and in a good location near restaurants and shopping, and felt safe. Our room was comfortable and quiet. We were surprised to have a kitchenette in our room, although we only made use of the refrigerator. The made to order breakfast was more than we expected and quite good. The only possible downside to this property is that there is no swimming pool. This didn't matter to us on this stay, but might be important to vacationers. All of the staff were friendly and courteous. We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel.

  • Liked — The safe and convenient location.
  • Disliked — No swimming pool.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights (Fri-Mon 8/8 - 8/11). We had already prepared ourselves for an older hotel but thought we would try it because the price was right. We booked a two room King suite (bedroom + sitting room), that had a microwave and mini-refrigerator.

From a general point of view, the hotel was definitely older but well maintained and it had easy access to the beltline and the mall. The hotel did smell like an older hotel but not too bad. It had a newer exercise room enclosed by windows and overlooking the lobby. It had good equipment (treadmill, elliptical and 3 other types) I remember my wife saying that there was only one of each type of equipment. The business area was small and also appeared relatively new. The breakfast was OK and kind of nice to have available (you get a choice of 2 pieces of French Toast, or Pancakes or eggs, 2 pieces of sausage or bacon, and potatoes and then bagels, toast, ceral, milk - 2% and skim, orange and apple juice and of course coffee). The cable is basic cable with HBO. It's not extended cable so no specialty networks like FoodTV, HGTV, etc.

We booked the room back in June and we requested a crib and a room on the first floor since this hotel does not have an elevator. We got our room on the first floor, but no crib. I asked at the front desk about that and they said they would get one and we headed out for dinner. When we got back, there was still no crib nor any message about why there was no crib. I asked again and they said that they only had 2 cribs and all were taken. To their credit, they called the Radisson to borrow one of theirs, and we finally got a crib but it was pretty late.

We had read reviews that said this place was OK and some that complained about it smelling like smoke. Here's what we discovered. This hotel has smoking and non-smoking rooms. Friday and Sunday night were fine because the hotel was relatively empty. However, Saturday night it was full and we found out that our non-smoking room shared a ventilation system with a smoking room! So we knew whenever the other party lit up. It was terrible. When we checked out and I told them about the problem, they acted shocked. So my suggestion if you stay here, is to request a room sandwiched between non-smoking rooms. That may or may not help depending upon how rooms are conencted by the ventilation system. we could also hear the person upstairs moving around because of a creaky floor. We don't plan on staying here again.

  • Liked — The front desk was fast and efficient
  • Disliked — Smoke piped in from adjacent room via the ventilation system

Upon arriving I had mistakenly booked the room for a month ahead of time, but that was no problem at all. The front desk painlessly gave us a Suite, which was the same price as the 2 King bed room we had orignally booked. The rooms were clean and smelled fine, bed and pull-out sofa bed were both quite comfy, and there were more than adequate amounts of towels in the bathroom.

Breakfast is worth the price of admission alone, with several varieties of plate meals made to order. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel the next time I'm in Madison.

A great option for people traveling with pets or for people simply looking for a clean, comfortable room at a great price. The staff including the management were professional, helpful and friendly. The room while a bit dated was clean, quiet and comfortable. We skipped the breakfasts so cannot comment on quality or quantity of the food as we never saw it. Would stay here again if downtown hotels were unavailable.

A group of us, 15 girls, went to Madison, WI for a weekend shopping trip and stayed at the Best Western West Towne Suites.

The hotel was easy to find, right off the beltline and across the street from the West Towne Mall.

We booked four rooms over the internet at a decent price. We checked in at approximately 10:00am on a Saturday morning and all four rooms were ready and located together, nice. Check-in was a little strange, they requested the first and last names of each person in the group even though only one person booked all four rooms and the rooms were already paid for. A credit card was required for any incidentals.

The front desk was helpful with directions and suggestions for restaurants. The public areas in the hotel and the rooms were clean and tidy. The lobby had sofas, chairs and a large screen TV for communal use.

All of our rooms had two full size beds, mini-frig, desk with two chairs, one stuffed chair with ottoman, telephone, TV with remote, alarm clock, iron, ironing board and a sink and counter top area outside the bathroom besides the sink in the bathroom.

One complimentary made-to-order breakfast ticket was given for each person registered. The breakfast area was decent size, the tables were consistently being cleared and wiped off. Breakfast consisted of a choice of three hot entrees: french toast, pancakes, or two eggs along with bacon or sausage and hash brown potatoes. There were also cereals, milk, coffee, tea, juices, fresh fruits, bread, bagels and condiments. The breakfast and service was very good.

We did not use any other services provided, therefore, I can not comment on them.

I would recommend this hotel and I would stay here again.

They advertise king sized beds. Beware - they have two sizes of king sized beds, but fail to disclose that to the public. You will be charged the same rate for a room with a regular king sized bed as a room with what is a smaller bed, which they claim is also a king sized bed.

I brought this to hotel's attention, and they engaged me in argument for 15 minutes; terrible customer service. General manager did not once appear to rectify problem. Hid in his office.

Also, this place has no elevator. Be prepared to carry your luggage up stairs and to your room.

It is unfortunate that this Guest did not like our California/ Hotel(72 inch width) King size Beds in single Bed Rooms. Upon concern our Front Desk Supervisor happily gave Double King Bed Room which carry standard(76 inch width) King beds with no extra charge. More than one size King beds are used industry wide.
Since we don't have elevator in Two-story building we are always pleased to offer Room on first floor. Customer service and Guest satisfaction is our highest priority and our goal is to make our Guest feel at home. Thanks for the valuable feedback.

We stayed here one night while traveling. The hotel was a little hard to find. There is no pool, so if this is important, don't stay here. The room was very nice, large, and clean. There is shopping nearby and lots of restaurants. The cook to order breakfast was good but not outstanding. You have 4 or 5 choices, but you cannot subsitute or get more than one. Some men did not think it was enough food. The morning we ate, there was not fresh fruit available, as stated on the menu. The menu consisted of eggs (cooked how you wanted them), hash browns (not very hot), bacon or sausage. There was also french toast. I can't remember what else was on the menu. There was an area where you made your own toast, or bagels, etc. There was also a juice bar, milk, coffee, and tea. Cereal was also available. Overall it was not bad and was much better than just a continental breakfast. Saved us having to go to a restaurant. Go early, it greats crowded quick. The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful.

We used our military discount and this hotel was very reasonable. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — The bed was very comfortable; the room was very clean.
  • Disliked — No pool or hot tob.
