“Mostly lovely meal and atmosphere”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

We came into Madison on a hot evening and picked Fresco via tripadvisor reviews. We found it in the downtown contemporary art museum. Small stylish restaurant on the roof top. We did not have a reservation since it was early on a Tuesday evening, but they were booked. However, the staff found us a table.

My husband ordered salmon and my daughter and I ordered sear tuna salad. The wines were good and the meals came in a timely fashion and were beautifully presented. We would certainly have given these meals 5 stars if it were not for the fact that the food was covered with hard chunks of salt. My husband tried to scrape it off his salmon. Maybe it is a local flavor, but it was too bad to ruin a lovely meal with a layer of salt. Best to let people salt to their own taste.

“Delicious seasonal fare”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

Eat outside on the patio if you can. The restaurant is located on the top of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Very pretty room but if the weather is nice, outside is the place to be. The menu is small but they do everything really well. I would rather a small menu done well than a large menu of average items. The presentation is a work of art. The halibut was cooked perfectly. Attentive service. Good value for the price.

“Unexpected find.”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We went with a group of four. I had the chicken, with garden fresh carrots that were prepared 3 ways, my husband had the salmon, which was on a bed of vegetables in a dill sauce, and the two others had the halibut with pea risotto. One person asked if the seafood cioppino could be prepared without the spice. We thought it odd that the chef could not create a sauce without the spice, but he did send out a sample of the red sauce used in a pasta dish. As it was based on the same spicy tomato broth, it was also unacceptable, which was why she had the halibut. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and we all tasted the buttermilk beignets for dessert. We will definitely go again when we're in town. The menu is not large, but it is varied and well done.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

Except for difficulty finding the restaurant we had a fabulous experience! It was not clear to us that the restaurant was on top of the Overture Center but we eventually found it. We went on a cold snowy evening in December and really enjoyed the atmosphere, including dish ware! It was a little too dark inside. We were the only couple there so service was impeccable. They were trialing their New Years Eve. menu and it was absolutely wonderful! We started with some unique cocktails and mussels in a very flavorful sauce. Seafood Risotto was so mouthwatering, I ate very slowly as to savor every bite! My husband had tenderloin that was cooked to perfection! We are looking forward to going back this summer and enjoying a similar experience on the rooftop!

“Great food and service.”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We ate many appetizers before hand at the Governor's Club and weren't really hungry. When we arrived around 8 pm we were offered a late night menu which had smaller plates and was just perfect! The entrees were all excellent and prepared with local ingredients where possible.
