“Nice Spot.”
Review of The Spot - CLOSED

The Spot
Cuisines: American, European, French, Gastropub
Description: The Spot is a well hidden gem on Madison's East Johnson Street. Specialties include seafood -- the Sea Scallops with cucumber melon salsa and creme fraiche are a crowd pleaser, featuring three perfectly seared U12 scallops. Another critic favorite is the Saltimboca-wich -- chicken, sage, chevre & prosciutto with aioli. Most diners don't leave without sampling the fabulous house-made desserts. The bar is a destination on its own, with offerings for all who enjoy a fine libation. Choose from 5 craft beers on tap that rotate often, a well curated wine list. Don't miss Half Price Happy Hour Monday-Thursday 5-7 pm! Established in 2013. In the building that housed the former Mildred's sandwich shop, The Spot retains the old east-side charm with handsome custom woodwork & an open kitchen. The guiding principal behind The Spot is simple; upscale dining in a casual atmosphere. The service & prices reflect those values.

“Nice Spot.”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

We have been twice and will return. Food, service, atmosphere excellent. Last go around we sampled the salmon blt special and a burger with gorgonzola and bacon, both with a small salad. We couldn't resist a dessert each and they were excellent. The dessert portion seemed a bit small for the price but I would still order again. Maybe just one to share though and then a pint of Chocolate Shoppe from across the street if further sweetness is required.

“Promising Neighborhood Restaurant”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

This was our second time eating at this new restaurant. I feel that as they refine the menu and improve the preparation The Spot will only get better. I was tempted to call this average so lets put it between 3-4. Our first visit I had the duck sausage which was good but not amazing. Tonight we started with the gorgonzola chips which we all devoured. Our entries were the Spot Burger (that was amazing), the saltimboccawich (very good), the grilled chicken roasted veggie salad (chicken was bit bland and the salad was over dressed), seared scallops on pesto (very good). I was pretty disappointed with the mustard green potato salad. I was looking forward to the greens but they are not a featured flavor in this preparation but more of an afterthought. The potatoes were under-done but the seasoning and crunchy carrots made this side very tasty. I think it would be better with creamy red potatoes. For dessert we all shared the lemon yogurt cake with blueberry sauce (good) and the salted caramel sundae that we wish we had ordered more of. The environment of The Spot is cozy with limited seating. There is a small bar area and outdoor seating is really nice when the weather permits. There are nightly specials along with special drinks. It is a great little place that makes for a fun meal with friends.

“something different--and really good”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Menu strays from the norm of what is usually found in a Madison establishment. I've been twice now and will soon be back.
