“Worst dining experience”
Reviewed January 31, 2014

This was by far one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Arrived at 5 pm and were rushed through on our order by a pushy waitress. Bartenders looked like they were miserable and couldn't care what you needed and were rude. Then we finally sit down and watch as three other tables that were seated after us get their food. Oh I forgot to mention the huge black hair in my wife's salad dressing!!! Waitress sees our aggravation and informs us that it's crazy busy on Friday and almost recommends that we don't come in on a Friday. Now I've been to several Friday fish fries around Madison (Dexter, Kavanaugh, Avenue, etc..) and have come to expect some delay and confusion but this place is like "what did you expect" which is a terrible way to be for a restaurant. If your that busy put on some extra people and actually like to interact with people on a pleasant level. AVOID!!!

“Pleasantly surprised”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

We stumbled across this place by accident when looking for our hotel. We thought it was a dive bar at first glance. When we arrived at our hotel, there was an ad for Toby's Supper Club in a book in the room, the menu looked great so we headed over to check it out. It's got that old supper club feel. If your looking for swanky atmosphere go elsewhere! The bar area had a cool, vintage vibe, the dining areas where meh, but the food was fabulous!!! The staff was great and tentative despite it being insanely busy. We both had fish. We would recommend Toby's for great food and service.

“Not sure why this place is so popular?”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

Recent visit to the popular Toby's that everyone said it was so great, not sure what they consider great? This place is OLD and rundown, yes I love old Supper Clubs and they have a special decor/atmosphere but this place felt like a dump. We arrived at 5pm and it was getting busy already. We were seated in the back and greeted by a nice waitress, she told us the specials and came back for our order. We ordered both steaks that were on special for a Saturday night- NY strip and Ribeye. Both steaks came cold/undercooked/flavorless and to tell you the truth they were the worst I have ever eaten. We would have sent them back but the waitress did not return to ask us if everything was ok. To start the meal we had salad, just torn lettuce in a bowl - NOTHING else not even a carrot. Yes they do bring a relish tray but that was not in my salad. The rolls came straight from the grocery store and cold. The hash brown potatoes were supposed to be so special- NOT- they were on a dish for 3 people to share and cold. My husband and I travel and go to many Supper Clubs and this has to be by far the worst. It felt dirty and old. The food was SO over priced for the food you receive. I know we will never return.

“Be Open to a New (old) Experience!”
Reviewed December 15, 2013

We luv Supper Clubs! Where else can you dine, not just eat? We were traveling through on a Saturday early evening and found via Google Maps. Just an old converted house outlined in neon light off the main highway. We arrived there at 4:00, got the last stools at the oval bar which prominently takes up the whole room. After ordering drinks we let them know we wanted to call dibs on the first table available after reservations were seated, they gave us menus at the bar. Very casual dress, lots of locals in attendance. The place really was filling up and we were getting worried that it would take a long time to finally get seated or to get food.

Atmosphere? Like someone's basement in the mid-1970's! Dropped ceiling, dark wood beams, table covered in oil cloth with standard banquet chairs surround the bar like they were an afterthought. Honestly, there really ISN'T a good table in the house. We embraced the old feel and enjoyed it for what it was! Just before 5:00 the guy running the bar sent a waitress to us at the bar and took our entire order. Promptly at 5 they escorted us to a table inches from the kitchen door already set with relish tray, cracker/roll basket and our salads in little black plastic bowls. Our hot cheese curd appetizer came shortly after and suddenly we realized this place was military efficient!

We both had steaks - very reasonably priced - cooked to order and delicious.

We thought the place was a hoot. Only thing that would improve the experience would be home made items rather than a reliance on Sysco type pre-mades, i.e. bottle salad dressing, frozen cheese curds, mass produced bread and nasty frozen french fries. Oh, and how 'bout some cheese with the relish tray - it IS WISCONSIN after all! Just sayin.

YA, we'd stop again! (Note to self: don't order fries)
