“Go for the pizza and enjoy the experience.”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

We like to walk here after a Badger game at Camp Randall. It"s about five blocks from the stadium on Regent. There's nothing notable about the entrance and possibly easy to miss. You enter and then take the stairs down to the lower level where you will find a dark, small, low ceilinged bar and tightly fitted tables which are most likely filled. If there are no seats open at the bar you will have to wait at the cramped area by the doorway. Although you won't mind because the aroma of fresh baked pizza will make it enjoyable. The staff is friendly and the service is okay although sometimes we wait a few minutes before being greeted. No big deal though. The pizza is worth the wait with its thin crispy crust and delicious toppings. The two of us can almost finish a large but leftovers are always welcome. For about 25 dollars you can get a couple of beers and a large pizza with several toppings. You can get other Italian dishes which are also very good but the main attraction here is the pizza. Its my favorite so far in Madison after living here for six years.

“horrid customer service- no chance to sample the food!”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

My daughter was invited to celebrate her birthday at the Greenbush by her friend. Both are new to Madison. Her friend had gone there several weeks prior and enjoyed the food and thought my daugher would enjoy it. When they arrived they were told it would be a 45 minute wait and their names were taken. They were seated and then, and only then, were they asked to show IDs. They were told they would not be able to be served dinner as they were not 21. So they should have known this....how? Her friend had been there with other like aged students several weeks prior. Her friend had DINED there not drank. NO ONE, NO ONE asked to see their IDs when they arrived. So the waitress was very apologetic and advised them they needed to leave. They expressed their disappointment--politely--and explained they only wanted to order food, not drink. So the waitress wasn't sure and thus called over the manager. The manager was very rude to these young women. My daughter expressed that it would have been helpful if they had been carded when they asked for a table ---and frankly, they look young-- I would card them if I needed to determine if they were 21 or not.... They report the manager was condescending, accusing her friend of 'sneaking in under the radar' on her previous visit....and similar comments to their intent. Really? She took no responsibility, no apology, no customer service capability whatsoever. She told the girls they should have known they needed to be 21 as it was on a piece of paper near the front door....Even if they should have noted the piece of paper among other papers did this call for this sort of treatment of 2 young people? Seriously, they are very nice young women and did not deserve this sort of response. Very, very disappointing and I certainly won't be frequenting this place no matter how good the food reviews are!

“Nice after-work spot”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

Friends invited me to join them at Greenbush for a small birthday celebration. I read some of the reviews online before going, and was a bit worried after reading a couple of negative reviews about the service. It simply was not the case at all! We arrived at 5:00 on a Monday and, surprisingly, there was no one seated at the bar yet. The bartenders were very friendly. We had one round of drinks and then asked to be seated for dinner. Our server was both attentive and knowledgeable. The pizzas really are to die for, although a bit pricey. One of my companions ordered a roasted vegetable sandwich and said it was also very good. I saw several other delicious-looking entrees being served to other tables; I would love to go back and try something other than their pizza. This was a rare "uncrowded" night at Greenbush... very relaxing and extremely enjoyable! I'm anxious to go back there again soon.

“a basement joint with class”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

This place seems to never be NOT busy - which is a good sign - and has solid salads and noodles and sandwiches but the key is the pizza, which is distinctive, crusty and really tasty. Beer and a pizza - sit down - is sometimes hard to find and we like this place for that reason alone. Has been there a long time and that in and of itself is a recommendation. A Pizza joint on every corner but this is the one to head for.
