“Great Steaks, Great Service”
Reviewed October 26, 2012 via mobile

We were in town for a football game and asked our hotel for a dinner suggestion. We were looking for an upscale restaurant and they suggested Johnny Delmonico's. They called and made a reservation for us. The restaurant is about a block away from the Capital and there is street metered parking for up to two hours. The dining room is reminiscent of an old time country club with a bar off to the side and dark wood walls. The dinner menu consists of steaks, seafood, and other entrees including lambchops, pasta and shortribs. We started with an appetizer of the Asian Fried Calamari with a sweet spicy chile sauce. We got the sauce on the side in case it was too hot but it turns out the sauce makes the dish and it wasn't too spicy (you can get a full or half order, we opted for the half order). We passed on the soup and salad and moved right to the steaks. They had various steaks ranging from a 6 oz Petite Tenderloin all the way up to a bone-in 28 oz Ribeye in a price range from $28.00 up to about $65.00. They also have four different topping treatments for your steak for an additional charge. We both ordered the 6 oz tenderloin steak with the Oscar topping (Crab meat and asparagas with a hollandaise sauce). The steak comes with your choice of potato. We both elected the garlic mashed potatoes which were good but not spectacular. We also ordered a side of the Wisconsin Marcaroni and Cheese, a house specialty. It is made with Wisconsin White Cheddar Cheese, miniature shell pasta and a touch of bacon, their side dishes are meant to be shared and this dish didn't disappoint. Fresh bread was served with the meal and service was very prompt and friendly. We did not feel rushed and had a leisurely meal. The waiter made sure our steaks were to our liking after we had had an opportunity to cut into them, they were done to perfection both medium rare (red warm center) and medium rare to medium (warm pink center). The bill for two without alcoholic drinks, soup, salad or tip was about $100 but we did not leave hungry. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would definitely go back.

“One of the best steaks ever!”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

I ate here during a business dinner and was served one of the best steaks I've ever eaten, it was fantastic. The waitress was very nice and friendly, fast service and excellent food. The place is also very nicely decorated and gives a luxurious feeling. Top marks!

“Very tight dining space”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We were a medium size party and were consistently bumped and heard "excuse me" during our evening. We were there for business with another healthcare corporation. The steaks were amazing but don't order the appetizer oysters. They were very chewy - not pleasant. Overall the service met expectations and we enjoyed the time spent at the restaurant. Definitely need to expand the seating area for larger parties.

“Great place for Restaurant Week”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

4 of us went for Restaurant Week this year, and we were impressed with the offerings in both the bar and restaurant. They have an exceptional Strasberri Lemon martini in the bar. The roasted tomato olive bisque was fabulous, would love to re-create. The partner had miso braised cod, very moist with perfect flavors. I couldn't go wrong with the 7oz. CAB NY Strip, and felt I experienced the "spirit" of Johnny D's. Desserts were fine, though unlikely to be ordered if not part of a special. The Dianduja tart was great, while the Gorgonzola dolcina was "fine." The restaurant gets quite noisy once it's filled, and the wait staff is very professional, if not a bit perfunctory. Although the meal was quite good, I don't know that we'd have dinner there again. That said, it was much better than our winter Food Fight RW entry, folowing which all of us admitted we had to get a snack on the way home.
