If you are ever in Madison, WI for any reason and have a "hankerkin"" for Mexican food, you have to head to Pedro's. Wife and I have been coming up here for 10 years or more for the Madison Art Fair on the Square and we make it a tradition to dine at Pedro's on Saturday night.
Pedro's looks like your ordinary Mexican restaurant, but the food is anything but ordinary. It's outstanding! One odd thing happened this time...walked in and told them we needed a table for four (son and grandson along this time). He said, there would be a 15 minute wait. OK. Headed into the bar which was practically empty. Didn't even offer to seat us there. And we saw almost no one leave in the next 10 minutes before our buzzer went off. When we were seated there were tons of empty seats. Weird? Why would they do that? Had a big party in the room next door and maybe their cooks couldn't keep up with the food orders, but it was strange.
Waitress was a bit strange too tonight. Seemed a bit odd and didn't know the menu well. Must be new.
Drinks were fine. Neat thing about this place is they make their own chips and their own tortillas. The tortilla making machine is right there to see. Very cool.
Wife and shared the usual chimichanga....with rice and beans and a wonderful side they call corn cakes...OMG, it is do die for. It's a great Mexican place, even though we had a few hiccups this time. We'll be back next year!
