“The place to celebrate your birthday!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

The Nitty Gritty has been a college town hang-out (and I presume still is) but it advertizes itself as the Birthday Place and they really do make you feel special on your special day. A special drink of your choice with a birthday balloon, a sweet dessert treat and singing and public announcement of your name all on top of an excellent sandwich menu that has a range of choices. I had a ciabatta chicken with lots of interesting things in it. Wonderful!

“We eat here our every visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

We love the gluten free menu and the off hours. We always seem to be so busy that lunch doesn't happen until 3:30 or 4 PM. They are open and happy to serve. I always order the gluten free black bean burger with cole slaw. It is so yummy and they are so knowledgeable about gluten free options. It is a pleasure to be their customer.

“Go for your birthday”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

I've only been here for birthdays. Nitty Gritty offers free drinks for your birthday. Why not? What else can you ask for?

The burger of the day is a good surprise every now and then, but I like the Big Grit because it's their biggest burger.

It's loud here, but that's expected. Lots of college kids being obnoxious and all.

“Good burgers, sticky furniture”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

I ate lunch at the NItty Gritty yesterday after developing a craving for a burger. The restaurant was nearly empty at 11:30 AM so there was no wait, service was prompt, and my food was served within 10 minutes of ordering. The Nitty Gritty burger is decent, although mine was cooked medium well (at the recommendation of the server) and it seemed a bit too dry. Still, fairly tasty and the waffle fries were good.

The seating, tables, and floor all seemed a bit sticky; this shouldn't really be a surprise since this is a downtown bar which specializes in birthdays and consuming mass quantities of beer. The decor isn't bad and even when the restaurant isn't busy it's a fairly nice atmosphere. At $11 for a burger and fries (I upgraded to waffle) it's a tad expensive but I don't feel that it was exorbitant. I'd go again.
