“Overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

We went to this establishment looking for a great steak meal. What we found was a dirty restaurant with poorly maintained interior. Tiles stained and sagging. The stakes were in the $30.00 range so we expected perfection. What we got was overcooked tough pieces of meat. My Rib Eye was flavorless and very tough. My husbands T- bone resembled shoe leather. Our bill was aver 100.00 for meat we couldn't eat. Much better places in Madison.

“The best steak house in Madison!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

This is my favorite restaurant in Madison and I head for it every time I return to town. Having lived there for most of my life I have learned to enjoy restaurants with good food and character. Smoky's fits the bill to peferection. No, they probably haven't invested a dime in the place but that is what makes it great. Atmosphere of the 50's and 60's and reasonable prices. Great steaks, I always get the steak sandwich and super hash browns. Great bar and bartenders as well. Makes me feel at home. If you like a small clubby atmosphere......try it, you'll love it.

“Terrible, terrible, terrible.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

They haven't invested a dime back in this place in thirty years. The service is bad and food is no better than average for above average prices. There are a dozen better steak houses in Madison, including the chains.

“Dont waste your hard earned money!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

We were excited. This is a reputable place. There were 8 of us. The rolls were plain and cheap. The salad was drowning in dressing - it was more like soup than salad. The soup tasted like canned. The steak was overdone, flavorless, totally unseasoned and way over priced. The scallops were gritty beyond being edible and tasted like iron or medicine. Yuck! Super dissapointed and will never be back and will never recommend.

“Spectacular steaks and a great service too!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Went here 2/15/13 for Valentine's Day observed and had a fantastic meal. It is pricey, but unlike some of those pretentious steak places near the square that charge the same or even more for a meal ($100-125 for two w/drinks, dessert, tip, tax) and give you a couple little bites to eat, at Smokey's you get your money's worth with a delicious huge steak and loads of extras. Had the ribeye and my fiancee had the New York sirloin strip, both huge portions and when we asked for medium, we got medium, and both were excellent cuts. Got the mushrooms added on and got a generous portion heaped over the steak. It all came with a great salad, clam chowder soup, baked potato, bread & relish tray. Also ordered a brandy old-fashioned which was nice and strong. Service was impeccable, extremly fast in bringing us every course and very courteous and friently. Only knock is that it could use some remodeling, especially in the bathrooms which seemed very out-dated and old.
