“Consistently good food!”
Reviewed May 24, 2014

And sometimes, excellent. We've eaten there 4-5 times, it's in our neighborhood. Unpretentious but pleasant, nicely decorated surroundings. Varied menu, never have had a bad meal there. The owners recognize us and greet us warmly when we arrive. The lamb and chicken dishes are always tender and flavorful, never over-cooked. We've enjoyed both kabobs and tagines. Companions have enjoyed other dishes, including the bastillas. Highly recommend it!

“Homemade food, personal service, lovely atmosphere”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

We tried Marrakesh on the recommendation of our daughter who is "foodie" familiar with some of Madison's best kept secrets. Everything about this lovely but modestly priced restaurant indicates care and concern for the customer--from food quality, to careful food preparation and personalized service. Even the restroom was spotless and showcased a lovely hand-painted Moroccan bowl as washbasin. We were very happy with our chicken and lamb tagines,as well as the chicken kebab we ordered; all entrees were accompanied by generous portions of fragrant rice and perfectly cooked vegetables, and arrived hot, fresh and perfectly seasoned. The highlight of the evening, apart from reclining on the colorful, lush pillows that surrounded our table, was chatting with the lovely young owner, who shared some of her life story with us. All that and the best homemade lemonade ever! Looking forward to returning and trying more dishes; next time we'll
make sure to leave room for the baklava!

“Great and authentic food, personal service”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

I particularly love family-run Moroccan restaurants. Marrakesh in Madison, WI is a great example. They're personable, and authentic, the food is fantastic. The Zaaluk was the best I've had anywhere, the chicken Bastilla superb. Combined with the service of one of the owners, you have a real taste of Morocco. A++, will come back!

Don't miss the desert sampler!

“A lovely experience in every way”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

Our favorite cuisine is Moroccan -- if you have never tried it, you SHOULD! We try to find Moroccan food in every city we travel to, (as antique dealers we are traveling a lot) and were delighted to find one in Madison, WI. This family owned restaurant has a lovely, colorful decor -- reds and oranges and golds. Two dining rooms, one has the pillowed couches Moroccan places are known for, the other side has all tables. We sat in a corner on couches that were very comfortable. The host is a very accommodating man, attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, and well prepared and presented. We recommend the Zaaluk as an appetizer (a tasty dish of cooked, mashed eggplant served with pita bread to tear and scoop up -- maybe doesn't sound good to you?? if you've not tried it, DO!) We Love that dish. Of course, you have to have the Bastilla, we had the traditional chicken bastilla. Yummy. We also tried for the first time, the fish tagine -- they make it with salmon, so since we love salmon and tagine preparation (baked in earthenware cone-shaped covered dish), we had to try that. It was really good, generous, thick portion of salmon in the yummy Moroccan sauce. (not spicy, but rich and pleasing) Wonderful Mint Tea (a must have) and we ordered the dessert variety, their Baklava was outstanding…the perfect end to a memorable meal.

“Great food, warm hospitality”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

Marrakesh Restaurant, and the husband and wife couple who own and run it, are a hidden gem for Moroccan food in Madison. The restaurant looks unassuming, but inside it is very beautiful and calming. The service is excellent, and the owner spent a lot of extra time at our table giving use great stories and history of Moroccan food. They sell Moroccan wine there, apparently the only place in Madison where you can find it. The food was terrific -- very authentic, homemade, and good amounts. We tried all the appetizers, which were so good. The baklava is really something -- Moroccans in Chicago make special orders to this tiny restaurant in Madison! If you get a chance, ask the owner her secrets for making it. There are numerous vegetarian, gluten free, and vegan options, and they are working to expand their options soon. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant.
