Excellent dishes, full of flavors and brilliant combined superb ingredients in a restaurant that is all about the food and a perfect elegant and simple no-nonsense environment. Cosy, warm and nothing like a fir coat! Love the place ...

“That'll do pig”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

Three of us went on a Saturday night and were seated right away. The restaurant is intimate, they seat you at large tables, family style. I wasn't sure about this at first but it was really nice. You can talk to the person sitting next to you or not. It wasn't awkward, just very casual, met a nice couple from Memphis. Food was fabulous. We shared 3 snacks, 3 small plates, 2 desserts and a fabulous bottle of wine. It was plenty for 3 of us. The arancini was great as well as the pork belly, ravioli and pappardelle-(the best bolognese sauce I've ever had). Cheese cake and hot chocolate for dessert. No complaints! Loved it.

“Small plates...huge sensory delight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

As a visitor to Madison, was delighted to have my son and his wife recommend this cozy and delightful restaurant. We started with rabbit roulette, which was served with a counterpoint of cherry relish...outstanding. The beet salad was also excellent, but paled in comparison to the range of tastes available in the small plate menu. Of all that we tried, we found the pork belly, and the poutine to be over the top...the pork belly melted in your mouth and the richness of the poutine sauce made each mouthful a savory delight. We also enjoyed the lamb cappachio, an unusual but really excellent dish. Finished up with the sfingi and torte...and while both were excellent, the sfingi was decadent...with the dark chocolate coating and ricotta balls melting with each bite. The service was outstanding, with our server knowing the menu well and guiding us to the best choices. To wrap up this excellent experience was the fact that the prices were reasonable for outstanding fare.

“Nice eats on the gentrified but still funky east side”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

Predominantly local food served with imagination. Tapas small dish style or full dinner available. The menu varies with the seasons - check it out here: http://apiginafurcoat.com/menu/

The owners are very friendly and informative. A good part of the seating is family style - long tables shared with whomever walks in. There are no reservations - we went on a Tuesday night and it was quite full by 6:30.

“For serious "foodies"...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

The Duck is one of the best restaurants that I have experienced over the past 20 years in the US, Europe and Asia. It is all about flavor. There is nothing "common" on the menu, so if you are a "meat and pototoes" kinda person, you probably would not enjoy it. I really liked how they do the wines...they ask you what you like and then bring you a couple of representative samples to try..again, nothing "common" on the wine list. We did not try the entrees, since the small plate collection was so diverse and numerous.
The only suggestion I would have is that they reconsider not taking reservations. The space is small and fills up very quickly,
