“Great Tofu Dumpings”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

The spicy tofu dumplings were so good that I had to have another serving! Definitely want to go back and try their ramen soup!

“Pork Buns Yes! Ramen Noodle Soup, maybe...”
Reviewed April 12, 2012

Like most other folks who have visited this place, we found the pork buns to be quite yummy if a little pricey. ($8 for two; $6 would be perfect) Also, the soup we shared was pretty much standard salty miso soup with some stuff thrown in it. The noodles were good but nothing special.

If you want cheaper good noodle soup (with lighter more flavorful broth) go down to Wahkee Noodle, which is pretty close. Umami has a better atmosphere and a mildly trendy bar, which Wah Kee Noodle lacks. Or you could go to one of Madison's Pho places like Saigon Noodle or that place at Hilldale Mall (can't remember it).

Oh yes, and this place seems to have a lot of sake drinks. As non-drinkers, we didn't care much about that...

“OK food, but very pricey”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

First of all, yes, I knew this place was expensive beforehand, and I know the arguments the restaurant would put forward to justify the price. But at the end of the day, you have to ask if the food was worth it.

For the appetizer, we split an order of pork buns - that's 1 each. They were very good - tasty and immaculately prepared. For the main we both had the pork ramen. It was quite good, but nothing memorable. This place has been criticized quite often for being way too salty, however I found the seasoning just right personally.

Interior was trendy/chic yet typically Willy Street at the same time. Big points for having their own parking lot around the back - Willy St can be a pain for parking. Service was fast and friendly.

If the bill had been half the size I would probably recommend this place quite happily and also return for another visit. However, 1 starter, 2 ramen, 1 Coke and 1 tea came to just over $40. It really wasn't worth that at all.
