“Small Restaurant, Great Atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

Cool old building in Madison, had a lot of character which only added to to the great service and delicious food. Each person in the part of four I went with loved their dinner choices. I will be back again soon! Try the Marilyn Monroe cocktail...fabulous!

“Needs some more love in the food, awesome service.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

Really the best customer service I have had in a very long time in Madison. Unfortunately, the food we ordered did not stack up. We were planning to get more, but when our sad little cheese plate showed up we changed plans. It is so easy to make a yummy cheese plate in Wisconsin, I couldn't chance it on anything else. The "Wisconsin Cheese Board" sounded delightful. 3 cheeses, pickles, bread, mustard, and a sampler of beer. Then the board came out, the biggest fault being the cheeses. The blue cheese was crumbled so small, it was as if it was just some leftovers tossed into a pile on the board. Then they had smoked Colby jack. Maybe just a personal preference, but it was yuck. And small, spicy, and super dried out. Then there was the smoked cheddar, tiny dried out slices. I'm unconvinced these cheeses came from their claimed sources. The mustard was blobbed onto a wilted spinach leaf in the middle of the board, as if to rub it in.
The people here were so very awesome, that we definately will give it another shot. The bar is very pretty and comfortable. I think it would have been best for them to 86 the cheese tray that night.

“Nice place!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

Went to Jac's, for dinner with friends and we were pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere was cool, and the beer selection was great. We all enjoyed our food, and the staff. This place is in an old building, and there isn't a lot of room, but it is cozy and a place we'll enjoy again! The surrounding Monroe St. Neighborhood is great as well.

“Great Fish Fry!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

We were pleasantly surprised by the tasty, crisp, light fried cod Friday night. It came complete with the restaurant's signature frites, which are nice and crisp and dark, small, thin. Frites are served with an aoli dressing and the cod comes with a light tartar sauce, applesauce, cole slaw and the frites for, I think, around $12. Fortunately we arrived by 5 and were seated right away. By the time we left the bar was packed and people were lined up outside to get in. Friendly, casual and always tasty.

“Informal; nice place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

We were there on a Tuesday so we purchased the 2 for $11 Jac's burgers ala carte. A very large serving of frites was $4 (if my memory is accurate). This place was very busy even though it was past the usual Wisconsin dinner hour. After being around the place for about an hour and a half I thought that this is a place I wouldn't mind hanging out at if I lived in the neighborhood. The staff had a great sense of humor and seemed to know a lot of customers by name. The service was prompt and cheerful and the food was good.
