“Surprised at some low reviews”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

We were very surprised to see some low reviews of this motel. Our experience was very good. We had to be in Madison for almost a week, and we chose to stay here. The staff at the front desk was friendly, the place was clean, and the breakfast was the best we've ever had at a motel. Since it was the middle of the week and they weren't busy, they offered us a larger room at no additional cost. The only negative comment that comes to mind is the fact that the bathroom wasn't very big and could have used a new sink and counter. However, since the rest of the room is a great size, that wasn't much of an issue. We would happily stay here again.

My husband and myself were travelling from the west coast to visit family. I had arranged a hotel shuttle in advance and was called earlier in the day to be told that there would not be adequate staff avaliable for them to pick us up, but that if we took a specific taxi to the hotel, they would cover the charge. As directed, we took the taxi to the hotel from the airport. The front desk person was neither welcoming, nor friendly. She seemed generally put out that we were promised that the hotel would pay for the cab and demanded to know who told me that. I told her the name of the person and she finished checking us in, but was clearly very irritated. The room was spacious, however the carpet was covered in lint (could have been easily remedied by a quick vacuum), and the bed's headboard had handprints on it. Breakfast was good and the breakfast host was very friendly. Location was also good, close to several big name stores and popular chain restaurants (TGIFridays next door and Hardee's across the street, among others).

We stay there at last minute notification and they got us a room. The staff was friendly and helpful as we pulled in at 10PM and wanted to get a bite to eat somewhere close. The pool looked nice as there were quite a few people using it. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic with a cook on hand ensuring the food didn't get too low. would recommend this place to stay.

This hotel is a pleasant hotel with good rooms which are very roomy, at least the one I had. The service is correct as is the (free) breakfast. Lots of parking space and also the breakfast room has lots of space.

My room also had a huge whirlpool (+/- 2 by 3 meters) in it which could accomodate a group of people. I did not try it as I was alone, but if you are here as a couple it could certainly be fun to book that room.

The rooms are clean and the sleeping quality is good. Good choice this hotel.

Room Tip: They have rooms available with a huge whirlpool (2 by 3 meters / 6 by 9 feet) on the ground floor.

Upon arrival at the hotel, we attempted to check in. Our friends had reserved two rooms, one for them and one for us through hotels.com. We arrived hours before our friends as they were flying in from the west coast and we drove in from St. Paul. The hotel said they couldn't check us in because our name was not on the reservation. They suggested calling expedia (who apparently owns hotels.com) and having them change the name on one of the rooms so we could check in. I was on the phone with hotels.com for over an hour, as they repeatedly attempted to contact the hotel and change the reservation. The woman from hotels.com said that the hotel was refusing to change the room, that they said a manager approval was needed and there was no manager onsite. The girls behind the desk kept saying that they were not receiving all of the info they needed from hotels.com. After an hour and a half, they still had not let us in our room and we were late for our dinner plans so we left.
I suggested to the front desk staff that try to resolve the issue as we were their customers and they said, no you are not our customers, you are expedia's customers. WORST service ever. They kept saying there was nothing they could do because they were just following expedia's policies. The girls told us not to book with expedia next time.

Once we were in the car, my husband called BW customer service, and within 5 minutes, the customer service rep said that she had called the local hotel and that they had taken care of it and we could check in. Then when we returned to the hotel at 10 pm, one of the same girls was working and she said that after her customer service had apparently called and straightened it out, her manager talked to customer service and said that they could not do it without canceling our reservation (the room was already paid for!) and charging us the current rate which was more than we had already paid.
Luckily our friends were right behind us at this point and they finally let us into our room.

THEN at 3 am, the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate. There was no communication by the staff alerting us to whether this was a real fire or if someone had just pulled the alarm. The alarm went off for over 20 minutes. It was at least that amount of time before the fire trucks showed up. I would suggest that the hotel debrief their guests at least the next morning to let them know what had happened.

The only good thing i can say about this place is they serve a decent hot breakfast.

Like a couple other reviewers, I am not sure why they still call themselves a BW Plus property. Most of the BW+ we have stayed in are MUCH nicer than a regular BW, which by no means are plain-jane hotel rooms.

Most Best Western beds are super comfy with luxurious linens and the + usually means a fanicer, newer decor, but not at this location. It was adequate.

Yes, we would stay here again but wouldn't expect a BW+ level of luxury now that we have BTDT.
