We made last minute reservations for a campus tour for my daughter and had to scramble for lodging. We could have stayed on the outskirts of town, but parking on campus is crazy and we wanted to leave the car at the hotel and walk if possible. I found Ruby Marie's on TripAdvisor and decided to check to see if they had any rooms with two double beds. Bingo! The place was perfect for us and included breakfast in the downstairs cafe which is very quaint. A bar is also attached which we unfortunately never had time to visit. We never heard the train noises that some reviewers mentioned, so sleeping was not a problem!

Room Tip: If you need more than one bed, there are only two room options, but that is more than most B & B...

Old building made new! Our room was good size with small fridge, new TV, jacuzzi type tub/shower. Delicious choices for breakfast - not the factory-made kind. Our room had a view of the lake. We would return to this hotel on another visit to Madison.

We had a peaceful stay at the Hotel Ruby Marie. Room was small but that made it cozy. Breakfast was delicious, and it was awesome being so close to the square. We will definitely be going back to this gem!

A perfect place! Warm cookies at night, beautiful rooms, right by the Capitol, Farmer's Market, downtown, and breakfast is in the restaurant that is connected to the hotel! You are just a doorway away from the Northwoods Saloon, The Come Back Inn, and the Essen Haus with the glass boots for beer. Best food in town at the Come Back! We ADORE and cherish this place.

Room Tip: Go online. Do you want a Capitol view or not? Fireplace? Jacuzzi tub? How many beds?

Charming old hotel. Has plenty of character. Our room was spacious, clean and well-decorated. Bathroom was perfect. Service was good. The hotel is located next to Lake Monona and close to the Capitol, about 7 minutes walk. If you enjoy hotels that have character and are not bland, this is a great choice. Also, this is a great walking area, close to the University, lakes and the adjacent area has plenty of cafes, restaurants, etc.
Breakfast was amazing (included in the price): wide variety of house-baked pastries, juices, among the regular breakfast choices.
Overall, the value is excellent.

This is a fun old hotel, and we enjoyed our stay. Our room was very large, and the bed was comfortable. We did have some noise from the street below, but we also had the air-conditioning going so the sound was muffled. The breakfast was a surprise, and was quite good with fresh baked goods and fruit. The young man at the front desk could try to be a bit more welcoming. Perhaps he is very shy but he seemed uncomfortable speaking with the guests.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, you might ask for a recommendation when you reserve.

We spent five nights at this distinctive, older hotel just a few blocks from the Square. Our room looked out at Lake Monona and we found the sounds and sights of the Wisconsin and Southern Railway across the street a nostalgic pleasure. I also enjoyed using the bike share kiosk right at the shoreline bike path across the street. The hotel staff were warm and welcoming at all times. Breakfast on weekdays is in the coffee shop on the street level featuring fresh made savory and sweet pastries, fruit, decent coffee, and very friendly staff.

Room Tip: I'd ask for a lake view, keeping in mind the active rail line across the street.
