Stayed here for a recent conference at the Alliant Energy Center. The room was spacious and the bed quite comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with Corned Beef Hash the first day and Sausage Gravy and Biscuits the next. Really hit the spot on a cold weekend! A big plus for this hotel is that it is connected by a walkway to the Alliant Center so we did not need to bundle up for the walk over. The only downside was that our room had a number of flies in it, both dead and alive. Kind of strange for a sealed room on the seventh floor. We would, however, stay here again given the value for the dollar.

The service was exceptional, especially John at the front desk. He was very friendly and went out of his way to make our stay remarkable.

The room was spacious, cozy and well kept. The cleaning staff did an amazing job keeping our room fresh and providing needed ammenities.

The location was a little out of town but the shuttle service was convenient and timely. When the hotel was unable to provide shuttle service, they called a taxi service and absorbed the cost. Awesome!!

Overall, we had an amazing stay and the service was the best we have EVER received!!

Emergency trip to wisconsin, family at madison University hospital...Hospital staff helpful suggesting hotels at hospital/family member stay rates...but we found a better deals and value/great rooms/breakfast included/ using our entertainment book discount card. at this hotel. Staff courteous, helpful, rooms clean and quiet.
room had small frig, microwave, coffee/tea maker/kitchen cabinets/small sofa sitting area, dining/desk area. It was our home away from home for a week. a few miles from the hospital, it was an easy on off the the highway drive back and forth to the hospital.
Going back in Oct. planning to stay there again. Bed was comfortable, mattress new, lots of pillows!

A friend booked this for us, and it was way overpriced. We were paying $170 a night and the hotel was full of concertgoers, beer festival goers and horse shoe attendees. The hotel is 3 miles from downtown and there are no convenience stores, grocery stores, or restaurants closer than that.

The hotel has a ballyhooed complimentary shuttle that picked us up from the airport but they chose not to staff it on Saturday. We wanted to go downtown for the market Saturday morning and had to take a cab. Saturday evening when we needed to go downtown for dinner, both shuttle vehicles were still parked in the parking lot and we were told that so many people had called for taxis that our best bet was to go out to the main road (where cars are going 40-50 mph) and flag one. Or take an hour to walk downtown. All weekend we were handed a business card with the cab number rather than the front desk calling you a cab. For a midrange hotel, usual service but at $170 a night? I'm not sure why they bother having two shuttle vehicles since they never had the staff to drive them.

We did get the shuttle Sunday - to a downtown hotel.

The hotel is fine if you have a car. The fridge, microwave, fitness center, pool are all fine, especially for families. But there's no place anywhere close to stock the fridge from.

Dear bikegirl100,

On behalf of our management company, I would like to extend our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience you experienced while staying at the Clarion Suites Central. We do offer complimentary shuttle service from 7 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week, based on driver and shuttle availability. We strive to do the very best we can to accommodate all of our guests' shuttle needs during their stay. We encourage our guests to make shuttle requests in advance, which helps us to better accommodate large groups, schedule our driver's breaks, and overall provide a much more efficient service for our guests.

If the shuttle or diver is unavailable, and a taxi is requested by a guest, our policy is always to call the taxi on their behalf. I'm disappointed to hear that this service was not provided for you and this has been addressed with our staff. Please know that we truly value your business, and we apologize for this inconvenience. We hope that you will give us a second chance.

Sincerely, Erin Ruppenthal, S&L Hospitality

Perhaps it's because I'm not really sure what else is out there in Madison, but because I like the place so much, I just assume there must be better places to stay that are less sterile, in closer proximity to downtown, for around the same price. It might not exist, so that's my caveat to this review. My husband and I stayed here while in town for a wedding. We thought it was fine. It generally met our needs of a comfortable space, generally clean (although lots of musty smells in closets and hallways) and quiet. Breakfast was ok, but nothing to write home about. And one note is that it got really difficult to find parking if you came in at night because it must have been boat parking central or something. What was also somewhat strange is that we got in really late and our room was freezing - it was like they had the air conditioning on high all day long, which I guess was to be nice given the humidity, but it was actually frigid. For the price, though, it's not a bad option, particularly if you have a car (unless you need to park that car late at night) or have to do anything with the convention center. The service is decent and friendly.

I was travelling with my husband and my younger sister. We were in town for a wedding and wanted a suite hotel so that we could all stay in the same suite yet have seperate bedrooms. My husband and I stayed in one bedroom with 2 queen sized beds. The beds in the bedroom were very comfy. However, my sister had to stay on the pullout couch in the living room. The couch was very old and dirty and the mattress just horrible. We had to get a number of extra blanket to make her bed more comfortable.
The bathroom connects to the bedroom. So the people staying in the living room always have to walk through the master bedroom to access the bathroom. This can be annoying at times.
The carpet was very dirty and had lots of white hair on it. When we first checked into our room I found lots of black hair on the towels. I called the reception desk immediately and we got new towels.
I really enjoyed the pool and the hottub as well as the outdoor sun patio.
There is a social hour every evening where the hotel serves free beer and wine.
The shuttle service wasn't very reliable. The Sheraton is down the street and my husband used their shuttle service once. Free WiFi was great.

We were here for our son's graduation from UW. We stayed for 5 nights: two parents and two siblings.Great accommodations for our family: Two Queen beds and a pull out couch. Beds were comfortable but the couch was terrible. Even though it was a room for 6 people, there were no drawers for our clothes. There was no fan in the bathroom to dissipate the steam and (possible) smell. Even though the breakfast was vast, it was disappointing because of the lack of service. Same thing with the complementary business center. Great idea but lack of service.
Pluses: Night light in the bathroom and Chocolate cookies!
