We stayed three nights while my wife visited Madison on business with colleagues. This facility was typical of its class - nothing much that makes it the slightest special. We couldn't get anything other than two double beds at check-in, somewhat surprisingly. Getting a view room was also not simple. Still, the room was fine and the beds comfortable. We and others in the group did complain about not having control of room temperature.

Two other minor issues during our stay: the underground parking is poorly designed and hard for parking and circulating; and, the service at the morning espresso bar was atrocious - I missed out on a good start to the day from this ineptitude.

Lastly, I'll note that Wi-Fi isn't free in rooms but is free if you can wait and catch up on things in the lobby.

Room Tip: Lake view and high if you can get it.

We are very sorry we missed the opportunity to “wow” you on your latest visit with us. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and we will be using it as we update our amenities to better accommodate our guests. I’ve asked our staff to review procedures for high periods of traffic at the espresso bar. Thank you again. Sincerely, David Buss, Assistant Front Office Manager

I booked a double deluxe lake view for a friends 40th birthday weekend. Our room was on the 12th floor and had a gorgeous view over Lake Monona. I would absolutely stay here again.
Originally we had planned to have 4 people staying in this room. It would have been a tight fit with two people in each double bed. However we ended up just being three people and we spread out one to each bed and one on the couch.
The linens were lovely, (feather comforter), lots of pillows, and extra sheets and blankets in the closet. Bath products were very nice. I don't usually use hotel products but these were high end.
The only complaint I have is that there was a continuos, low, pulsing humming noise audible in the room. It never stopped. I found it very distracting when trying to sleep even though it really wasn't very loud. By turning the air conditioner fan on, the noise was covered up, but it would have been nice to not have the noise at all.
All in all the hotel was awesome and next time I hope to use the spa. It looked awesome...but we were too busy having fun running around Madison.

My husband and I ended up staying at this hotel after winning an AMAZING bid on Priceline.com. We were both thrilled when we found out we were staying in the Hilton downtown, as this location is literally the best spot in town. You are literally walking distance to the Capital area, shopping along State Street and great restaurants. Aside from being within walking distance to everything you could possibly want/need, the view is spectacular...! On one side you have the beautiful capital building and on the other you have Lake Monona, either way is a win in my book!
Only two small negatives during our stay:
1.) We tried to check in around noon and were told to come back at 1. We decided to go to "Taste Of Madison" that was going on around the Capital building and came back near 4 PM and were told that our room still was not ready. We were a little frustrated since we were tired and just wanted to unpack and settle in, however they gave us two free drink tickets to The Olive bar. Just as our drinks arrived they informed us our room was ready. Forgiven. :-)
2.) There was a pretty intense looking spider relaxing in one of the corners of our room. Yikes!!
Other than the spider the room was modern, clean, everything you'd expect from the Hilton. We're HHonors Gold Elite members, so we had access to the Executive Floor Lounge and Continental Breakfast. The breakfast selection was fantastic and the views from up there were amazing! We Love Hilton hotels and the Hilton Madison Monona Terrace lived up to our expectations! We'll be back for another visist!

We were upgraded to the 12th floor, lake view for some reason (thanks!). There was a conference going on, so service was slow in the lobby breakfast bar/Starbucks. They gave my daughter and I free drinks, maybe due to the slow service? The location was excellent and we walked around the capital, enjoyed our view of the lake and terrace. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. This is not a place for young kids (even though we brought my 2 1/2 year old). It's for business travelers and politicians. Room service seemed overpriced and there was a crazy internet fee, but the parking fee seemed reasonable. We had a business rate, so I don't know if it is a good value for the average traveler.

Room Tip: View of lake is worth extra.

The Hilton Madison Monona Terrace was the location for a family wedding. My husband and I stayed for a weekend and fell in love with the town because of the easy, enjoyable walk to the state Capital and area attractions. Since most of the meals were a part of the wedding planning (e.g. bridal luncheon, brunch, etc.), I can't give a typical review of eating on site. However, there were plenty of restaurants and shops within a five or ten minute walk. The hotel staff were extremely accomodating and pleasant. The property included an indoor pool and workout facility that were not huge but provided enough fitness choices for a long weekend. Our room had beautiful lake views, was average in size, and decently appointed. The best part of the weekend beyond the wedding festivities, was the incredibile beauty of the Capital that can be seen from most vantage points while walking around town. In great weather, this becomes memorable!

Room Tip: Any room with double lake views.

The hotel rooms at this hotel are quite large and comfortable. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend the lake view rooms as the view is very nice. There is very ample work space for the business traveler with an oversized desk with plug and jack outlets. Highly recommend for the business traveler.

Room Tip: Several choices of view. Dont forget to ask.
