“Sit on the patio and get your palate swept away!”
Reviewed August 21, 2011

SUMPTUOUS! I was walking through the Capitol area and stumbled on this little gem of a restaurant. There were open seats in the sidewalk patio so I sat down and within 2 minutes a handsome server greeted me. From here out it was just to get even better. The menu was focused but would allow anyone to find something that was not "steak and potatoes". On the bottom of the page there was the option for a vegetarian tasting, chef's choice. There are also seafood and "land meat" tastings. For $42 I went for it. Course after unstoppable course of deliciously prepared culinary pleasures blessed my fork and mouth. And just when I enjoyed the cheese course at the end, there was MORE. I cant even begin to imagine how someone makes tamarind custard, but it accompanied dessert! Nutella has NOTHING on this brown paste of pleasure to the palate! Normally I would drink wine with such an event, but I wanted beer. Two glasses of the regionally brewed Oktoberfest served as a cleanse to my taste buds after each bite. Yummy! ...and since I had no idea what would pair with the dessert (and two beers were enough at that point), I asked Paul what he thought I should enjoy with the final tantalizing course. "Surprise me", I blurted. He came out with a perfect glass of white port that made me shiver with joy as it paired perfectly with the luscious sweet green tongue tattering final course. BRAVO

My wife and I just enjoyed our 2nd meal at this wonderfully adventurous restaurant. The meals were every bit as tasty and appealing as they looked. My wife had a beef entree while I had a game hen. The beef was done perfectly with some kind of mushroom ragout I cannot adequately describe but which were a perfect complement. The hen was crispy on the outside and soft and luscious on the inside. Everything was flavored to perfection. The spices added interesting flavor without overwhelming the dish. Madison has lots of really good restaurants but I have only rarely had dishes where every bite was a feast of flavors. The menu needed some explaining to us as the chef here obviously likes to combine some things that you've probably never seen together but worked perfectly on our taste buds. 43 North has become our place to go when we want something special and unique. We did not have any dessert but they looked just as interesting.
