Lots of interesting art and a quaint gift shop and locker room, may be a bit boring for the kids though. I have been there several times-very cool

Good displays that catch your interest. Worth an afternoon of walking around especially if you are interested in art.

“Gorgeous Building and Great Exhibit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

We visited Madison over the weekend and since the Chazen Museum was near our hotel, we decided to take a walk to see what was on display. The building is quite new, and the design is modern with lots of light and excellent spaces for the collections. We happened upon the current collection of art commissioned by FDR at the height of the Depression. The random theme for the artists that were given work was "Our America". These paintings came from all corners of the US and tell the history of the country at that time. When they were completed, several of the paintings were placed in Post Offices and other government buildings (including the White House) to serve as inspiration to others who were at the edge of despair. It was an excellent showing, and we look forward to many more visits to this city treasure.

First class works in a worthy setting. I enjoyed the top-flight photography exhibition. Each room offers impressive pieces by well-known artists. The collection was chosen with love for art lovers.

“Art Unleashed!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

For years the University of Wisconsin kept much of its best art under wraps because of inadequate exhibition space. Now this art is up for all to see at the Chazen with its wonderful new galleries!

In addition, the Chazen has hosted some truly exceptional special exhibitions combined with top-notch lectures and docent programs. Wow, such an improvement from the old "LVM" days.

My only complaints are that parking and handicap access present some challenges plus the operating hours can be frustrating when there is a special exhibition. (The nearby Lake Street parking ramp is a dated facility and often full during the week, hampering visitors.)
