“Nice surprise!”

Surrounded by many hotels, this was a great value. Room was clean and looks like they are renovating a new roof. (No, it's not red!) The King rooms with the microfridge are the way to go. Seems most of the Red Roof Inns have been renovated.

Stayed here on our way to Minneapolis. Didn't have a problem finding it. Not staying at Red Roof Inns often (last was 10 years ago), I was pleasantly surprised. This one was recently renovated and was clean and comfortable, especially for the price. The front desk gentleman (Nick) was very nice and accommodating and gave us a recommendation for a restaurant on our way to Minneapolis. My only problem with this motel was the fee for the in-room safe. I guess I didn't read the fine print when I initialed the check-in paper but we were charged $1.50 for a safe we didn't even use (and had no need to as our total time spent in this room was about 8 hours). The $1.50 won't break me but it's the principle of the matter. Don't know how this motel would be for longer stays but it was more than fine for our overnight stay.

Friendly check in, clean renovated property. Nice room for the $.
Lots of restaurants nearby - upgrade to a King Business and get free WIFI.

this hotel was so bad.. it was dirty, none of the outside doors were locked so anyone off the street could come straight in the hotel. the sheets had holes in them, the bathroom had holes in the walls.. it was disgusting.. the business center was dirty and the wireless internet was not functioning..

definately not good.. service was bad as well.

The hotel was easy to find with Google Maps directions, as it is located just off the "Beltline" freeway on the east side of Madison. Very friendly staff, decent room for the price, although the floor was very dirty (my white socks turned black on the bottom just walking across the carpet). Overall, the room could have been a little cleaner, there were hairs all over the place, especially in the shower. Very convenient location, however, a short drive to downtown Madison and the UW campus, and lots of (chain) restaurants nearby. It's an average budget hotel, but don't pay full price - book through an online discount service if you can.

Needed a stop in Wisconsin on our way to the Dells to meet some friends, decided we didn't need an expensive stay if we were just going to crash for the night.

Problems: the place is difficult to find, even with mapquest. We had to stop at a hotel by the highway to ask directions (and you know how us guys HATE to ask directions).

The mattresses were soft and sloppy, you could barely turn around in the bathroom, there weren't enough towels. Worst problem was the floor -- I'm guessing because it's pet-friendly -- the floor was filthy. The bottoms of our feet got DIRTY walking around the room in our bare feet.

The only positive was its proximity to shopping and the highway. That's it. Plus, for $85 a night, it was comparable to a dump down the road I could have gotten for $59 a night.

Never again.

  • Liked — Proximity to shopping & restaurants & highway
  • Disliked — Dirty floors.

I would have preferred to stay closer to the campus area, as this hotel is about a 15 minute drive out of the way from that, but all of those hotels were 3 times the cost. The Red Roof was a good budget alternative at about $65 a night, and located on a row of a bunch of budget highway-convenient hotels. Its location is for highway convenience, as there are nothing but strip malls within walking distance. Clean, comfortable, pet-friendly, no complaints.
