I was given a room with 2 twin beds. Is this crazy or what? Needless to say any kind of sleep or romance was impossible. They claimed there was no other room available. Booked with Hotwire.

We were here just for one night. At check-in the desk clerk seemed to have a hard time finding a room for us. Apparently not many rooms were available. We were placed on the "club" floor and found our room clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, the higher class the hotel, the fewer free amenities. There is no complementary breakfast, although we discovered a small breakfast buffet in the club floor lounge (after we got back from eating at Denny's). My wife was going to use her laptop but said there was a fee for internet service. An earlier comment from management said internet service is free in the rooms so maybe my wife was mistaken.

Booked this hotel because we were meeting friends for dinner. Our first impression was that the entire lobby/atrium smelled of chlorine from the pool. The staff couldn't find our reservation, even though we are members in high standing of their Priority Club. The smoke alarm went off in our room and it took 2 calls to the front desk to have maintenance come up...it was fixed after the second call by having the broken alarm switched with an alarm from another "executive floor" suite. The restaurant was closed during the afternoon, so no room service available. We arranged for a wake-up call that was never received. The housekeeper knocked on our door at 7:50 AM to try and clean our room, though. We had a problem with getting a cab and after the hotel staff did not alert us (as promised) that our cab had arrived and other people took it, they would not even consider using their courtesy van to take us to our restaurant which was a short 10 minute drive. The driver was simply sitting in the lobby. We waited another 25 minutes for a replacement cab. This hotel is a convention site, and definitely doesn't cater to leisure travelers. The breakfast room on the executive floor was out of napkins, no cream for coffee and was unstaffed when we arrived at 8:20. The front desk was called to request napkins, water, and cream but the only employee that showed up was there to clean up at 9:30.
There are numerous hotels that have been constructed on the opposite side of the Interstate on the east side so this hotel is no longer the best alternative to budget chains.
We were totally disappointed with the lack of professionalism that The Crowne Plaza name usually connotes. This hotel was on a par with an old Holiday Inn and should probably relinquish their Crowne name.

The hotel is very easy to get to from the interstate. There are many places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. While some people may feel the pool area is exposed, I liked being able to see my kids swimming while I relaxed in the lobby. The staff was very accomodating and let us eat at the tables in the lobby, and they placed us across the hall from the other couple we were traveling with.
The elevators were really slow and the hallways were hot. The wallpaper was peeling in our room and the bathroom doorknob didn't always work. We missed not having a continental breakfast and a refrigerator in the room. We could not find an ice machine on the 5th floor. Our floor was marked a "Quiet Floor" and according to the door hanger no children were booked on that floor. I feel bad for the other people staying on that floor that planned to have a quiet stay because we had 5 kids between 2 rooms.
The hotel had recyling bins available in the parking lot which I thought was great...it would have been nice to have a something in the lobby area as well.

I stayed here for 5 nights for a seminar for work. Overall, I was pleased, but felt they could have made some impriovements.

Pros:
-Nice Pool/Hot/Fitness Area. Very large, open and sunny. It's right off the main entrance with windows as walls, so everyone can see you from the lobby. More privacy would be nice.
-Close to shopping/restaurants/highway. Not close to downtown/capital area
-Public Computers in main lobby
-Free Newspaper everyday

Cons:
-No fridge/microwave in rooms. This would have been VERY helpful especially if staying there for an extended stay.
-No continental breakfast. There's a buffet, but you pay around $10-12 for it.
-No free internet

mschuh03, we appreciate your feedback!
We are very pleased with the completed renovations of the lobby and yes it is a very open environment....and we certainly welcome the sunshine after a long winter!

For your future visit with us, I wanted to clarify that we do offer refrigerators and are available upon request. We also feature a microwave oven on each floor by the vending area for your convenience.
For a future extended stay option, you could also consider our Suites which include a refrigerator and microwave right in the room!

Wireless high speed internet is available and free to all guests in their guest room and lobby area, I apologize that you missed this opportunity during your visit. For those traveling without a laptop, we also offer a business center in our lobby with free use of computers/internet & printing.

We do feature a wonderful breakfast buffet each morning in The Prairie Cafe', but keep in mind for next time that we offer an ala carte menu as well and a continental option in our Starbucks just located off our main lobby.
We look forward to your next visit mschuh03, and we thank you for your comments

I stayed at this hotel for one night for a conference I was attending. The conference was off-site, and a hotel bus shuttled us to the conference location. The driver was very friendly and they seemed happy to do this for us.

The front desk staff were also friendly upon checkin and helpful for conference information. The room's decor was somewhat dated, but the beds were very comfortable and I had a great night's sleep.

The lobby area is spacious and there are two computers that are free to use, albeit a little slow. There is a pool and exercise area, but I didn't use those so am unable to comment on their quality.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay..

Our family drove to Madison to attend a Friday night concert at the University and decided to stay at the Crowne Plaza. We wanted to be close to the Interstate and it was only about a 10-15 minute drive to the Auditorium...(and right across the street from the East Town Mall). When we got there at about 5:30 the lobby was pretty busy...lots of kids and families. As busy as it was, the front desk person smiled at us the minute we walked in the door. He was warm, friendly and efficient. I travel a lot, both for business and pleasure and he was exceptional.

Our room was a good size, clean and very comfortable. While we were getting ready to go out there were some kids running in the hallway. I was a little worried that it was going to be a noisy evening (and I am a light sleeper) BUT that was not the case. By the time we returned from our concert all was quiet and we had a wonderful nights sleep. The bed was really comfortable (I'd love to know what kind of a mattress it was) and we had plenty of pillows.

The next morning we had breakfast in the restaurant just off of the lobby. Love the Starbucks in the lobby! They even served Starbucks coffee's (including espresso drinks) in the restaurant. The breakfast buffet was very good. They needed to replenish a few items just before we went through the line but it was fast.

We really weren't there long enough to use all of the facilities but look forward to coming back...husband and daughter wanted to use the hot tub and pool.

We had a terrific time in Madison and loved the hotel (wonderful staff). This will be our hotel of choice in the future!
