Best Western Turquoise Inn & Suites
Ranked #4 of 16 Hotels in Cortez
Reviewed April 26, 2010

Having stayed at Holiday Inn Expresses the previous two nights, we checked there first and found it to be overpriced. We checked tripadvisor and the Turquoise received surprisingly great reviews. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and the indoor pool was small, but nicely landscaped. The room was clean and comfortable.

Good clean rooms with roomy suites for our family with teenagers. Nice pool, friendly staff. Hot breakfast is good but it can get really crowded in the breakfast area.
The hotel is built around a beautiful courtyard that would have been very inviting if we weren't there during a snowstorm.

My first impression was not very good since I don't usually stay at hotels with outside entrances to the rooms for safety reasons and it looked pretty dated from the outside. Inside the room was nice. Decor was new and nice. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was ok. Free internet in the room.
The only negative was loud music thumping from the parking lot area. Called the front desk to complain and it seemed like it got quieter but I used ear plugs to sleep so don't know if it was going past 10:30pm.

My wife and I, and our dog, spent ten days exploring Colorado. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and it was the best hotel we stayed in during that vacation, and one of the better hotels we've stayed in at that price range.

We had stayed in Cortez before, at the Holiday Inn Express, and would have stayed there again but for their much higher dog fee. So we gave the BW Turquoise Inn a try and were very pleased with the decision. My enthusiasm is affected somewhat by the fact that we were given, at no charge, an upgrade into a suite. The room was quite spacious, with a front sitting/work area (w/ wet bar, mini-frig, microwave) separtaed from the bedroom by a large bathroom/dressing area. Our room faced into a small interior courtyard decorated with a SW Indian theme. It was a nice, quiet place to relax.

I don't recall anything remarkable about the service, apart from the clerk's being cheerful and accurately checking us in, but I really liked our suite (and the room rate I paid for it) and the courtyard. We used the small indoor pool/spa a couple evenings, but it was smaller and it didn't take too many people to make it feel crowded.

The breakfast buffet was the biggest disappointment. Too many pre-package goods and not a lot of variety. We supplemented the hotel buffet with some groceries we purchased. Thankfully, the hotel is on the main business road through town and Cortez is big enough to have a decent selection of restaurants. We found a couple very good local restaurants that we'd recommend to others. And there were a couple groceries down the block.

The next time we're in Cortez, the Turquoise Inn will be our first choice.

Low price but sufficient hotel. City offers enough choice for breakfast or dinner. Internet in lobby available. Little pool.

We recently spent four nights here and were very satisfied. In fact, this is one of the nicest motels that we've stayed in quite some time. Due to foul weather moving in to the east we changed our plans during mid-vacation and were able to book a queen suite on two days notice. Perhaps it's just our preference for southwestern and native American decor but we loved this place, from the lobby to the room itself. It seemed that a lot of thought went into designing and decorating this motel. The suite was very roomy, extremely clean and quiet. And we also very much enjoyed the sound of the waterfall in the courtyard just below our room. The continental breakfast was adequate if not outstanding and the front desk folks were efficient and friendly. We left our dogs home this time but if you are on the road with dogs they are welcome here and there is a nice area behind the motel for walking them. Should we stay in Cortez again I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. It is a perfect place to retire to after long days of .hiking and exploring.

This was a nice, clean hotel. Actually too clean in the parking lot because there was a person our there squirting down the entire parking lot for over an hour. We were in 90 degreee plus heat and they are out there letting the hose run and run and run. We are from California where water is quite precious. We also looked for a recycling can. The person at the desk took our recyclables but I am not so sure they recycled them.

The internet in the lobby did not have virus protection as it seems about 75% of the Best Westerns don't, so use with caution.

But for the plus side. The parking lot, although crowded, is organized nicely. I guess they have an overflow lot also if you can't get a space in the front. The room, lobby and breakfast area were clean and the pool was clean too. The landscaping is also as nice as it could be with what they have to work with.

The pool is indoor which is very nice with a water fall, artificial vegetation and rocks, etc. The only bummer is that they turned the waterfall off when we were in there. At least we got to enjoy it for a while.

The continental breakfast lady was quite pleasant. I don't remember many from other places but I remember her as being very welcoming and happy.

The room is average sized. it is likely an older property as the bathroom had a window that opens which we like. This place is on the main road in town but it was not very noisy because we were fortunate to have a room in the middle and furthest away from the road.

I would recommend this place. It is expensive but it is well within the going rate for the area. Book early and with certainty as this place books up early before the summer season starts and they state that you can't cancel or change your reservation without a charge up to the full price of the room. But they were nice enough to let us change our date because we changed it over 2 months in advance. THEY ARE VERY NICE HERE.
