“Stop in for sunset”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

We didn't eat here, so our review is limited. After dinner downstairs in the Metate Room, my wife and I went up for drinks and mainly for the fresh air views. The bar is small inside, but the two outside patios are really where you want to sit. The bartender was fast and friendly, even going so far as to loan out the use of his binoculars, so patrons could see the two small wild horse herds several hundred yards away. We also got a close-up view of a buck and two does just below us. So, good drinks, great service, pleasant company, and great views of nature - Who could complain?

“Sloooow Service”
Reviewed August 4, 2012 via mobile

We had a great meal at Metate downstairs. Asked our server if they served dessert upstairs in the lounge as we wanted to watch some Olympics. He said yes, so we paid our bill and headed up.

The inside area is not very large, with maybe 8 tables. We had to turn a two top sideways and borrow seats from other tables.

I had to make severe eye contact with a server after several minutes to get him to stop. We asked about dessert and could tell he wasn't thrilled because he had to go get the dessert tray from downstairs to show what they had. We ordered a couple drinks which took a while to get and then more minutes before we could see the tray.

After ordering two simple desserts, a brownie with ice cream and a piece of chocolate pie, we sat and watched tv ( there is one in each room ) and waited. And waited. It took about 35 - 40 minutes to get the desserts. The table next yo us was waiting as well.

If we knew it was such a hassle, we would have just had them downstairs with our dinner.

Nice view, but I do not suggest ordering food in the lounge.

“Great views, light meals with wifi”
Reviewed September 22, 2011

This place should be considered the 4th eating establishment at Mesa Verde and is rarely mentioned. This is good for dinner if you don't want the cafeteria experience of Far View Terrace, fast food experience of Spruce Tree or the fine dining experience of the Metate Room. It is located at the Far View Lodge main building on the 2nd floor and casts itself as a bar with a bar menu with reasonable prices (as far as national park food is concerned). I do not consider it part of the Metate Room restaurant which already has its own bar (small) contained within.

You will not believe the beautiful sunsets you will see from the outdoor patio or indoor area with the plateau vistas, followed by the moon rising and stars if it is not overcast. If you are an internet junky--the tables here have great wifi.

They have a decent selection of beer (Ska on tap) and wine. The bar menu has some interesting dishes. The hummus "pizza" on Navajo bread was very good. The boar meat sliders using pita bread was excellent. My chicken tenders coated with confettied fried tortillas on a salsa jam was incredibly bland.

Staff were nice but seemed poorly coordinated--I found this odd especially since this was towards the downturn of the tourist season. My first server admitted that she usually works the Metate Room. I watched her colleague make a margarita (they're large and served in a beer pint glass) --I don't think he went to a bartending school--and watched people happily drink them down.
