“A place you'd take middle schoolers for a field trip.”

Just don't expect much, but overall was ok. This is the kind of place where a Day Care, Elementary, or Middle School kids would come for a trip. Not planning on ever going back.

“Very disappointing!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2014 via mobile

Our first family visit here and not only were they preparing to close for major renovations, most of the exhibits weren't maintained! It was assumed that all visitors were aware of pending renovations, but there was absolutely no signage. Full price was charged although most exhibits didn't function correctly and the renovation crews were everywhere. Wait until next summer before visiting!

Thank you for reviewing your experience with us. I am sorry that your experience was not a good one. We were getting ready to close 3 days later for our complete renovation and I do apologize that several things were not in working order. We are set to reopen in March of 2015 and I do hope you make plans to come and visit the all NEW Mid-America Science Museum.

“Hurry! Closing soon!”

Better hurry! Closes in August for major renovation. Been to many such hands-on science-type museums and this already ranks at the top. I can only imagine what it will be like afterwards!

“Not the best”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014

This is a cute place for kids to play while adults get a break from the hot weather. Some of the exhibits needrepair work - especially the ones that use music to explain the physics involved in creating musical instruments. It's not a large place but big enough for kids to stay busy maybe a couple of hours. I was disappointed that the cashier did not remind us of the closing time before taking our money. We had only been in the museum 20 minutes when the announcement was made that they were closing in 30 minutes. That short of time allowed us to see less than half of the facility as 20 minutes was used up waiting in line for the Amazon simulator (which was not really worth $3/each as it wasn't very exciting). I also found the parking and entry to be difficult. Due to an orthopedic procedure, I am using a walker. The parking lot was uneven and had a lot of rocks. The museum is not visible from the lot as it sits back in the trees and one must walk about 50-60 yards on a rocky path and a warped wooden bridge to reach the front door - not a problem for most people but certainly a deterrent for those with mobility issues. There is a parking area for employees that has an entry right off the parking lot but the public (including the handicapped) are not allowed to use it. I've been to other science museums that were much larger and accessible - and contained a Omni Dome and planetarium. This one was a disappointment.

“hands on exhibits”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2014

we had a nice time checking out all the hands on exhibits. the Tesla show was pretty cool, it could have lasted a little longer considering it cost extra. we spent about 2 hours, unfortunately there was a busload of day camp kids or something there or we might have stayed longer. not a very big place but it has some cool exhibits, the amazon rain forest ride was really neat.
