We rented one of their tents for an overnight camping trip. It rained all night and we didn't get wet. The fact it was off the ground was of great benefit that night. Beautiful place. I'd definitely go back. The trail to the waterfall was gorgeous and the fall was really running because of all the rain.

Really cold during the month of January, but if you like hiking, this is definitely the place to go!

Needed a weekend escape, and wanted to do some crystal mining in Jessieville Arkansas. We picked Lake Catherine State Park (near Hot Springs), and could not have been more pleased with our visit!

Reservatioins on the weekends here are a must, as this is a very popular campground! We let them know we were tent campers and needed plenty of grassy area to put the tent on, and we wanted to be on the water. Our needs were certainly met, and check-in was smooth. There is a camp store here to pick up souvenirs or any forgotten camping esentials, food stuffs, and ice. They also have hot coffee and sausage biscuits available in the morning.

Each site had a picnic grill which came in very handy, as there was a burn ban due to drought conditions in the area. We missed being able to have a camp fire, but this was no fault of the park.

Bath houses were well maintained and were very clean. Just make sure to bring your own soap with you each visit!

Some people complain about the unsightly power plant in the middle of the lake, but keep in mind that without the Dam and Hydroelectric plant, this area would not exist.

We took advantage of the marina and rented a power boat for the day. This is great for those hauling camping trailers or cars and can't bring a boat, or for folks without a boat (like us!). We had no luck fishing here, but there is supposed to be some nice bass, bream, crappie, and catfish in the lake. The marina store sells live bait, small tackle, cold drinks, and even fishing rods.

Be aware this is a large campground, and walking back and forth from your site to the marina, ranger station, playground, and trail heads is not for everyone. Trails are nice, we took the 2 mile one, which was perfect for us. Unfortunately the waterfall was not running (it is seasonal), but we took lots of great pictures. Even the easy trails are rocky and can be steep at times, so not very small kid / stroller friendly.

We were pleased with how quiet the park was at night, even on a very full Saturday night. You can hear occasional sounds from the power plant, but really nothing bothersome even in a tent.

Bottom line, we would definitely stay here again.

The cabin is well arranged and well equipped. All the cabins are on the lakefront so you really can't choose a bad one. We were in #1 which was kind of on an end cove. The mallards, blue heron, and turtles were feeding in the cove, and we could sit on the screened porch and watch them from literally a few feet away. Whie there, we made reservations for the same time next year.

This is me and my boyfriend's first visit and stay at Lake Cathering State Park and we very well enjoyed ourselves. The cottages made you feel as like you were right at home. I would definitely recommend anyone to visit and stay at the cottages.
