Owner description: Take a quiet trail into the thickness of oaks and hickories. The Scioto Trail State Park in the Appalachian foothills makes for a pleasant hike.

“A Beautiful Park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2012

This beautiful park includes picnic shelters, and a swimming beach that my daughter enjoyed at age ten. Be sure to visit and climb the fire tower along the road near the route 23 intersection.

“Beautiful Scenery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2012

This is a great park that offers some pretty good hiking, as well. It is just far enough off the beaten path to allow you to "get away from it all," but close enough that you can easily get back home (or to your hotel) after enjoying a nice day.

“Hiked, Picnicked and had a white knuckle, breath taking, scenic drive on Forest Road 6!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2012

Climbed the fire tower near the entrance for an awesome view. Then stopped at the scenic overlook on F4 (Martin Road) before driving to Caldwell Lake. Hiked from Caldwell Lake to Stewart Lake. Picnicked near the gazebo at Caldwell Lake. Decided to drive along the Scioto River to F6. Would not take this route again as it is a narrow, gravel road with sharp switchbacks and steep drop offs along the edge for much of the route. Fortunately we did not encounter any vehicles coming from the opposite direction as it didn't seem like the road was wide enough to accommodate that. This is a very quiet and secluded setting.

“Good hills, poor marked trails.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2011

This is a nice park but from a hikers perspective the trails are poorly marked and are often very muddy. Has some nice overlooks. Just go with an exploratory attitude and good boots and have fun.

“Very small operation lends itself to friendly people and great time!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2008

Out of all the State parks in Ohio i have been to, which is close to 20, this one was the smallest operation. There is no nature center, no showers or pluming, just pit toliets. I didnt see a park ranger and it appeared there was only one naturalist and one lady who worked at the camp store, which was a small trailer looking building. These attributes lead to an awesome atmosphere where you felt welcomed. We camped in site 49, which is the last one in the non electric section, right next to a creek. Awesome setting to camp. The sites are pretty close together, so on Friday we were somewhat secluded but Saturday there was a family right next to us. Even with it being a small place, there are things to do: basketball court, vball court, canoeing and paddleboats on the lake, picnicing on a little island in the lake, trails and of course good ole campfires and everything that is included in that. Would recommend this location to anyone!
