AVANI Quy Nhon Resort & Spa
Ranked #1 of 20 Hotels in Quy Nhon
Reviewed June 22, 2008

This is a perfect retreat after travelling throughout Viet Nam and its buzzling cities. This resort is set on a secluded beach with fantastic spa treatments. Its is just a perfect place to relax and pamper yourself. The hotel offers a range of acivities including yoga, trips to the surrounding etc.
The spa is tucked away and the massages are a perfect retreat, including the steam bath and the wonderful drinks that are served (ginger tea and refreshing juices).
The Hotel staff including the managers are helpful in all matters and make your stay as pleasant as possible and make you feel being at home. They give you also nice travel tips for your further travel in Viet Nam.

The hotel own restaurant offers a great menu and staff is just lovely and make your stay unforgettable!

As said a perfect place to stay and unforgettable!!!!!!!!!

I visited Quy Nhon life resort last week for 3 nights.
It was a group meeting with about 40 people going together for a sort of some conference, but I found the resort much better than I expected.

The resort is located next to its own private beach. On one end of the beach, there is one small local village but they didn't seem to bother guests on beach or so, so not much problem. I could watch fishermen coming in and out of small village which was nice.
The beach was very well maintained and water very clear. Tides were a bit tough and the slopes were kind of steep so not very recommendable for children.

Room is quite spacious for a 4 star hotel, but many rooms come with only shower booth. I had twin bed room and each bed was very tiny. For best view, you should take rooms on the third floor, and with a sunken bath if possible. No central command system for room lights or air cons. Air conditioner was very strong, so quite pleasant at daytime but had difficulties adjusting while sleeping.

Breakfast is quite good, especially liked some selection of fresh fruit juices and home made jams. Selection of food was not very much but food quality was quite good. Dinner buffet was quite disappointing. It seems they don't usually have dinner buffet on regular basis. A la carte food tastes good, price still low, but I think it is quite high for a place like Quy Nhon. Anyway, if you are in this resort you have no choice other than the resort. You could still get a taxi and go to downtown Quy Nhon for site seeing and some local foods, but I don't think it's worth to do it everyday.

Since I had to travel to and from Hanoi, it took almost 10 hours from my house to the resort. So better going in and out from HCM city. Not top quality service but remarkable place with very peaceful and clean beach.

Just back from a weekend away at the Life Resort with my wife. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable time.

The good:
The rooms are great. Comfy beds, nice pillows, decent shower pressure. The ambience of the resort however is what impressed us the most - it was so peaceful and calm. The beach was sensational, having spent a lot of time travelling through Vietnam this is the best beach I have seen thus far. The bar prices - despite having you as a captive audience - were surprisingly good. A bottle of Tiger for US$1.84 (after they add VAT and SC), so roughly equivalent to VND30,000. Not bad value. The pool area - while a little small - was very nice, well maintained and had an awesome view over the beach.

The not so good:
We booked a junior suite and were on the bottom of the three floors. As a previous reviewer has mentioned you are better off on the top level to get the best views and privacy as our view of the sea was through palm trees. Not a major, but in my view it was not worth the extra money. All I could see was the difference is that you get a DVD/CD player in your room which you can rent for US$10 a day if the weather packs up.

I was also a little disappointed there was no gym in the resort - not even a little cardio or weights room. There is however a large yoga room - go figure.

Finally, while it was not a problem for us given we were only there for two days, the resort IS miles away from anywhere. There are no other bars or restaurants within walking distance so you are pretty much stuck in the resort. As a piece of advice I would suggest that you get your taxi driver to stop at one of the towns you drive through and pick up as much water or beer you think you will need for the duration of your stay. While I mention above that the beers arent too pricey, if you plan on having a few sundowners on your balcony why pay over the odds right? In addition, a big bottle of water will set you back around US$2.80 so it is definitely worth stocking up on this beforehand for a fraction of the cost.

In summary do I plan to go back or recommend the place to my mates? Definitely yes to both. Cant wait to return.

My wife and I stayed at the resort for 3 nights mid way through our 12 day honeymoon in Vietnam. Upon arrival into Quy Nhon airport, we were greeted by a staff member and driven to the resort. He put on some relaxing music and the trip was very good. On arrival to the resort, we were given a cocktail and warm towel, and directed to the reception desk. We were given a junior suite on the 2nd floor, which was available at 9am in the morning. The room was outstanding, although we did request a sheet change on our bed as they felt damp. The staff were great, and we spent the next 3 days receiving spa treatments, cocktails around the pool and room service. The spa was the best part of this resort. Outstanding! Staff professional, atmosphere fantastic. The staff arranged a private car transfer to Hoi An which only cost 80 dollars. Cheap I thought. Recommended for relaxing.

We just fell into the groove the moment we arrived here (after a cancelled flight from Danang necessitated a 7 hour bus trip - now there was an amazing experience!!!).

The hotel arranged a pick up from the bus station, late at night, and from the moment we drove down the driveway and were warmly greeted with hot towel and welcome drink, we just relaxed and appreciated this lovely hotel.

We had booked a room on the top (3rd) floor, as from viewing photos of the rooms, had realised they had wonderful high ceilings. An added bonus was uninterrupted views as some rooms on the lower floors would have theirs blocked by palm trees. Ours was a deluxe double, very spacious with open plan bathroom and large balcony. All light bright and airy with superb views as directly on the beach.

The staff were always friendly and helpful, the massages divine (though expensive for Vietnam, but we really didn't care, as absolutely delicious). The included buffet breakfast was exemplary, all you could ever wish for, with slight variations every day. The restaurant menu was also diverse, and it was not difficult to find something different to choose during the five days we were there. The public areas were really comfortable and welcoming, the lobby tastefully decorated with huge lounges, and pool table (lots of fun before or after dinner), and the bar though open plan, still had a cosy feel.

We ate there always, as couldn't be bothered to head off anywhere else, though arranging transport was easy. Not being in the heart of Quy Nhon didn't bother us at all, but may be a pain to others.

The weather when we were there was not the best, so water sports weren't on the agenda, but would love to stay another time as the beach and islands just offshore would make a wonderful "playground".

We hired a car with driver to explore some of the Cham towers, an interesting day out, as of course by doing so you end up off the beaten track . . . always a magic time!!!

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, it's a wonderful escape, in a quieter part of Vietnam, with Ambience +++

I just returned from 8 days at the Life Resort with three friends. Our main purpose for visiting the Life Resort was to participate in the cleanse/detox program, which was advertised on their website. Although the resort is quite lovely, the program should be suspended until it is revamped.

The Good:

- The resort grounds are lovely. The resort overlooks small islands and a fishing village, so there are colorful boats bobbing in the water.
-The rooms are spacious and relatively well appointed - very good value.
-Spa treatments by Ms. Phuong were really good - another good value.
-WIFI and 2 computers available to guests.

The Bad:

-The food portion of the program was completely unacceptable. A) The nutritional value of the food program is questionable. Several of t he 'fresh' juices tasted like they were from a package. On the healthy eating days, we were served food soaked in oil and white rice, as well as fruit coated in sugar. Not appropriate for a true detox/fast, even a mild one. B) The restaurant staff had no idea of the program, so they continually brought us wrong items and asked us to sign for items included in our package. Managing the program on our own prevented us from completely relaxing and enjoying it. C) The fruit on the breakfast buffet was swarmed by gnats...very unappetizing! D) The quality of the food and fruit drinks was very inconsistent throughout our stay.

-Other than when speaking to a few management level staff members, communication was a real problem. To make this worse, instead of admitting that they did not understand the staff would simply say 'yes' to any question/request. This resulted in frustration and confusion for us on several occasions. While I acknowledge that we are visitors in their country, English is the business language at this resort so I found this situation unacceptable.

- Additional issues: beds are uncomfortable, management reprimanding staff in front of guests, inconsistent and inaccurate information provided by front desk staff, spa staff chatting with each other throughout spa treatments, many tour groups.

We communicated our concerns to management early in our stay and they attempted to resolve the issues, but also told us that they are having trouble retaining staff once they train them. Given comments by other guests, it appears that our issues were experienced by others.

The hotel has a peaceful charm, all of the architecture is done in a very simple, yet elegant style that is beautiful! The staff is so helpful, and even when there are language barriers, they do their best to help- we are in their country, with their langauge! It's well worth a visit to the Life Resort. And, its worth taking a taxi into Quy Nhon to get a taste of REAL Vietnam... and all its charm. It's worth taking a stroll through town- not on a tour- and try some local foods like Banh Xeo or Bun Thit Nuong. The food at Life Resort is exceptional- and much below US prices for the same fare... more expensive than local foods- but still good for the value! Enjoy the get away!
