“I will be back again!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

It was a family weekend getaway during spring with my parents in-law and my 1.5 year old son. The facility is very user friendly for both elders and kids. My son had a great time at hotel pool and enjoyed hot spring very much also. What amazed me was the food quality on the set menu. I was very surprised by the food quality from Hotel Royal as I didn't expect food could be so delicious in Yilan. The offer daily catch from the sea so that seafood is always fresh. The breakfast was a feast!!! There were a lot of selection, Chinese, Japanese, Western, vegetarian..etc. I could almost skip my lunch after breakfast. I am sure I will be back again in Fall!! Highly recommend to everyone to this hotel but book early because it's getting difficult to book during weekends now!!

I stayed at the Hotel Royal Chiao Hsi during my spring break. Being to Yilan quite a few times, and trying different hotels, this hotel has marked a deep lasting impression to me. The hotel is beautiful, comfortable and worth your money. The service there is great, the value is excellent, sleeping quality is comfortable, it's above average clean, the rooms are comfortable. All these key points show that the Hotel Royal Chiao Hsi is worth your money. The stay was absolutely incredible, with so many different activities in the hotel it made the night go pass very fast. It was very relaxing, and the one thing that you have to do is go to the hot springs or pool. Overall, this hotel was amazing.

Our first trip to Taiwan. Hence we joined a tour group.
Stayed one night at the hotel Royal Chiao Hsi.
Room was very clean and roomy. We were allocated a Japanese style bedroom. Included a sitting room area with Japanese style furniture and there was a pot of Chinese tea was set on the table ready for us to pour hot water into to enjoy after our hour long journey from Taipei city area.
The bed was a Japanese style double bed. Hence it was set low. The bed was a little firm for me but my wife liked it!
The toilet is a state of the art electronic everything! It has a set warmer and automatic bidet setting etc...........got to get one of these toilet installed when I get back in home!
The views from our room was not spectacular......it faced the car park with mountain in the background. But it was quiet and we had a restful night.
Bathroom was lovely, especially the individual spa pool in your own room. We got to use it once. The other time we used the outdoor spa pools because there were so many varieties to choice from. You've got to try out the fish massage (see photos). You place your feet into a pool full of 'gold fishes' and they 'massage' your feet.........quite an experience!
For dinner one could choose to have the buffet dinner or service set dinner option at the restaurant. We chose the dinner buffet which was excellent with all taste adequately catered for.
After dinner, there was a wonderful Chinese classic type show held in the main reception area which lasted one hour. It was most entertaining.
There is a library should one wishes to read a book as relaxation. There was also a free raffle held straight after the show.
Buffet breakfast was fantastic. Again Chinese/Japanese and Western breakfast menus fully catered for in the buffet and a very good spread/choice was provided.
Staff all friendly and helpful. They all wave at you as you leave the hotel.

We had a lovely relaxing stay here and enjoyed everything in this hotel. The room is big & comfortable. We enjoyed hot springs bath in the room and great breakfast buffet. We had a lot of fun in the hot springs park with different types of hot springs pools. The Japanese Suite made our stay enjoyable trip!

We stayed for 2 nights in a western style room with a city view. The view was gorgeous!
It was part of a hot spring trip with this being the middle hotel in a series of 3 hotspring hotels in Taiwan that we stayed at. (see my other reviews on Grand View Beitou and Onsen Papawaqa)

Pros
The hotel is a spacious property and while it's true that design wise it doesn't look brand new, it was still well maintained and comfortable. It's Japanese style with wood accents but in a modern style.
Service was excellent and all staff, from the front desk, restaurants and hot spring facilities, were friendly, attentive and polite.
There were lots of facilities available, including miniature golf, table tennis, billiards, karaoke and free use of Wii and xBox. There were 2 types of hotspring facilities. One was indoor / outdoor which required bathing without clothes and was gender separated. The other was outdoor, just next to the swimming pool and required the use of swim wear. Both were excellent. The outdoor one had a variety of themed pools. including a fish spa that was loads of fun.
There was also a long list of daily activities, including hiking, DIY activities, excursions and nightly opera performances. I can't comment on the day activities because we didn't take part in any, but the night performance was nice.
Food was surprisingly good. We stayed 2 nights and had the set dinner for the first night and the buffet for the second. The food, while not super creative, was very well executed. Taste and freshness was excellent. The set dinner was a combination of western and chinese cuisine. The buffet had a lot of variety.
The lobby bar had such a nice view, we spent a couple of hours lounging there.
Wifi was free and signals were mostly strong all over the hotel.

Cons
The hotel is quite isolated and not walking distance from the town centre of Jiaosi. However, this didn't turn out to be a disadvantage as we decided to stay in and enjoy the facilities instead, and had a wonderfull relaxing time!

Overall, would strongly recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms with the city view are gorgeous, but you don't wish to pay extra, you can get the same vie...

We stayed at Silks Taroko last year, and then decided to return, this time, to Yilan.
At low season, the place was a steal, with very decent japanese style rooms, a lobby worth wandering in with lots of books to get lost in whilst burying yourself in bean bags conveniently located along the corridor. The rooms have nothing to fault.
The spas were a bit busy and seemingly congested, but gave a 180 degree view of Yilan.

The upside of this hotel, in its solitary location, is it's excellent food. This is the second time I have been impressed by food in Taiwan. In a lot places, where eating outside of the hotel is not an option, food can be terrible. But both at Silks Taroko and here, the food variety and quality should be lauded. The complimentary snacks in the room were so delicious, we brought back lots as souvenirs.

The only down-side, which often pervades Asian hotels is the excessive air-conditioning in ALL public areas, which may be preferable to some people, but honestly, it's freezing.

Great onsen close to Taipei. Beautiful grounds with a nice and clean full size pool. Buffet is also good. Agree with the previous reviewer the rooms are outdated and with the premium they charge these rooms should be much nicer.

Room Tip: We stayed at room 628 with no balcony. Ask for top floor rooms with balcony
