“Excellent hospitality!! Feel at home~”
Reviewed June 15, 2012 via mobile

Rotthenburg: A MingSu located at a quiet & serene part of Yilan. We stayed in room102 located on ground floor (one of their cheapest room). The room is as per what you see on their website = Wow!. Mr Xu and Ms Yang are both great! They are v attentive and Mr Xu even drove us to National Centre for traditional arts as well as to Kamalan bus centre.
Info:
1. Take Kamalan bus from Taipei to Yilan (1+hr).
2. Don't attempt to walk to Rotthenburg! Enure u have Rotthenburg address with u. Cab is the transport for tourist to n fro Rotthenburg. Cab cost ard NT170.
3. Check in: Strictly at 3pm. If you reach too early, why not visit National Centre for Traditional Arts.
Suggestion:
If u only have 1 day for Yilan, try National centre for traditional arts and luodong night market.
If you have 2 days, you could use one day to do nothing and wind down/take photos in Rotthenburg.

Will definitely come here again! Thanks Mr Xu and Ms Yang for their great hospitality.

It's like the cozy homely resort I'll like to own in the suburbs as a retreat when escaping from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Don't miss the afternoon tea served! And the excellent healthy spread for breakfast.

Lovely place :)

I went to this minsu back in 2010. Stayed for 2D1N, after arrived at taoyuan, booked a car straight down to this minsu. First saw it super like the building and ambience. Is really like you are in Europe now. The owners were so friendly and kind. Offered to help us carry our luggage to level 2 where our room was. At night, the owner still offered us a drive down luodong night market and fetch us back too! Ludong night market the foods are super nice. It's really like staying at home, so friendly and environment was great. Me and friend had a great sleep there.. Sleep till morning. Planning my next year trip back to taiwan, this minsu sure will be on my list again.

Hi! Me and my husband were there for our honeymoon and we stayed for 2 nights which we booked directly via their website. Upon arrival, people were shooting an idol drama (featuring Vaness - Chocolate related drama) on site.

The lodging exceeded our expectations - It was big, airy and clean. What I love was that they provided a sachet of onsen powder so that we could "bao4 zao3 (soak)" in the big bathtub. The grounds were also very well-maintained and lovely.

The owners were very friendly. It is a bit isolated, but I'd totally recommend it! The place is a NT170 cab ride from the Luodong night market if you call Kevin. ~NT200 if u go by taxi meter.

we stayed in the lodge for one day right before leaving Taiwan. more as a wind-down before going home. we were immediately thrilled upon arrival! the lodge is beautiful!!! we can see the owners have paid so much attention to the finest details. with the relatively big group, we took a two-double-bed room and a one-double-bed room. the rooms are so spacious yet cozy. my boy loves the swing chair in the room! =)

when we arrived, we were served afternoon tea. Ms Yang also gave us a lot of good information about where to go. she also helped us order taxi to the nearby night market and give us recommendations on the signature stalls there!

it was all so pleasant, relaxing and warming stay!

We stayed 2 nights at Rothenburg Lodge (minshu) (RT) from 18-20 Dec 2011. The stay was booked directly with the owner Ms Yang through their website after we did some research online.

We arrived at Luodong train station and was picked up by Mr Hsu. When we arrived at RT, we were amazed by the beautiful structure and garden (there were more than 100 trees according to Mr Hsu!). It was as if we were in Germany! We were served welcome tea and cakes upon arrival. Mr Hsu and his wife (Ms Yang) were very friendly, caring and helpful. They gave RT a very personnal touch and homely feel. My family felt very well taken of during the 3 days/2 nights stay. They recommended several places for us to visit and dine at. Mr Hsu even drove us to several car rental companies when we told them we wanted to hire a car. For foreigners wishing to hire a car for self-drive, it seems it will be almost impossible to hire a car in Luodong due to some licence issues (it is thus advised to hire one in Taipei). However, Mr Hsu managed to locate a car rental company for us in Yilan which was willing to rent us a car. Due to inconvenience of picking up and returning car in Yilan town, we decided to go with hiring a taxi for 8 hours per day instead (at NT$2500).

This is the 1st time we are staying in a minshu in Taiwan and we are glad we stayed at Rothenburg lodge. The lodge was equipped with plenty of reading materials and travel brochures. We had 2 days of hearty and healthy breakfast at the lodge. We were served eggs, soup, choice of soya bean drink/fruit juice, salad, bread, fruitsand yoghurt. The portions were also very generous.

The only complaints we had was the lack of cupboards and places to hang our clothes/towels in the room.

Room Tip: Only 6 rooms are available, 2 on ground floor and 4 on upper floor. Rooms on ground floor opens up t...

When we were planning for our trip to North East Taiwan and seeking the advice of other tripadvisor forumers, Taiwan DIY recommended a stay @ Rothenburg Lodge in Luodong, Yilan County. We were keen to visit the ports of Suao/Nan Fang-Ao, and since Luodong is only 30 mins by taxi, we decided to stay a night here. Several forumers who have stayed here have written positively in their blogs about their stay.

We arrived @ Luodong train station @ 1141 hrs and was fetched by Mr Xu. Since we were too early to check in, we asked Mr Xu if he could drop us off at the bus station which is a short distance from the train station so that we can take the King bus to Suao/Nanfang Ao for lunch. Due to Typhoon Nanmadol's arrival into Southern Taiwan on 28 Aug, the bus service was cancelled. Mr Xu kindly offered to drive us to Suao @ NT$250 per way but he declined to charge us upon checkout. Journey to Suao was 30 mins.

We had lunch @ 富美 (Fu Mei), No.111, Haibian Rd., Su-ao Township, Yilan County http://www.necoast-nsa.gov.tw/user/Article.aspx?Lang=2&SNo=04001251. We ordered a small BBQ fish, a steamed crab with roe, Seafood & vegetables soup and mambo fish (Suao speciality). Lunch for 2 of us costs NT$1430. After the hearty lunch, we took a short walk to Nantien Temple (Matsu Temple). Turn left from Fu Mei and the Nantien Temple Nanfang Ao is a short 3 mins walk. The third floor of the temple housed the golden statue of the Matsu (The Goddess of the Sea) which weighs 200 kgs and made of 100% gold! From the third floor of the temple, you can get a panoramic view of the port. There are many taxis waiting outside the temple so we have no problem hailing a cab to Rothenburg. Fare is NT$400.

Upon arriving @ Rothenburg, we were mesmerized by the charm and beauty of the lodge which reminds you of the beautiful castles and homes of the wealthy in Europe. Mr Xu and Ms Yang are very warm hosts and we were made to feel very welcomed in their charming home. Their beautifully landscaped garden is a sight to behold. Originally, we were quoted NT$5400 for a room upstairs due to peak period, but Mr Xu offered us Room 102 (on the ground floor) @ NT$3200 when we checked in. At 1600 hrs, we were served tea & coffee with Yilan's famous Ox Tongue biscuits. We called Mr Xu @ [--] to make our room reservation about 2 months in advance, and again about 2 weeks prior to arrival to confirm our reservation.

Mr Xu sent us to the Luodong night market (15 mins ride) without charge, and we took a taxi back to Rothenburg @ NT$175. We were unable to visit the Centre for Traditional Arts due to Typhoon Nanmadol's arrival and the centre was closed. The lodge and the surroundings is a photographer's delight! It is a charming, romantic and delightful place to stay! We will stay here again if we come back to Taiwan.
